Smile Evo...Evo..Evo...But which evo?

Hello guys

Just so you guys know I did try to search... I couldn't find the exact answer to the question...or what I'm looking for the answer...

So here is the dealie...I been a honda junkie since I started messing around with cars.. I've always wanted to get an evo since Gran Turismo and just watching the WRC. Ok so now they are here..n I can finally get one....but which one?

So far from my research its like this and u guys are welcome to correct me..

(03-04)Evo 8 , (05) Evo 8.5? = center diff... & MR edition, (06 - ) Evo 9 & 9MR edition and Mivec added.

Now the engine it self its been some what the same from way back all the way to 05...but with the evo9 and added mivec...head is different block is different (im guessing oil passages for the VVT) somewhat like a vtec motor ( i know its different but is still vvt)

So im thinking of sticking with the evo 8 because of the engine parts but i havent knocked out the evo 9.
However the price tag is an issue im not going to lie I need the payment for the beast to not be more then prob $350 a month.

So with all this in mind.....which Evo 8 ...n why (advantages & disadvantages) as well as the Mr edition...(some "little bird" told me that the 6 speed is weaker..?)

Anyways I have a few months to make my decision....but I want to make it a wise one because I plan to keep the car until it can go no more....n then make it go again if you know what I mean...

Thank you in advance and sorry for the long paragraph here...hehe

9= teh illest
8=less money

You're going to have to go see what prices you can get and correlate that to what your monthly payments would be . You're going to be told to search.

If money is an issue, find a clean 05 VIII GSR. If not then the 06 IX GSR.

I would say get the 8, or a 9 if the price is right. Peformance wise, Yes the nine has Mivec, but the power difference between the 8 and 9 is about 15hp. Also parts are easier to get for an 8.

The 6-Speed trans isnt weak. It produces the same power as the 5-Speed, But with the 6spd the gear ration are a bit smaller.

If you have the money, the IX is the obvious choice. You can make as much peak power with an VIII, but you won't have the same fat powerband of the IX because of the MIVEC.

Now, looking at the VIIIs, the 05 has quite a number of important additions compared to the previous years; namely, the front LSD, ACD, and the larger hotside on the turbo.

possible mr problem = https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=232494

if i were in your place i would buy a decent condition 03/04 evo

get installed a new clutch, new syncros, and a quaife front limited slip differential

no acd means slighly less weight and a cheaper / easier meth install

the 10.5 hotside is not important if you are planning on getting a bigger turbo
