Evo good for new driver?
I agree with the fact that you agree. haah
to add. The wrx is a toned down version of the sti/evo. Since you would like a evo in the future its best to get something similiar so you can learn the ways, not some N/A honda.imo Manual, turbo and awd. everything you want but in a little less of a powerful package to start off with..
Teenagers + Old Volvos =
Recommending a 16 get even a WRX for his first car =
that is great you have the money to purchase the vehicle...but save it, invest it in your future: college or savings. I would recommend getting a used wrx to learn with. If you able to get a galant vr4...it wouldnt be a bad car if you wanted to stay in the mitsubishi community.
There is more to owning an evo than just the car itself. Insurance is through the roof and as a new driver...you are going to get butt-raped from the insurance company. Maintenance isnt cheap either.

I'm 17 years old right now and I drive an evo; however I have been driving since I was 12. I read and re-read multiple times the rules of the road book when I first started to drive, and I have gained A LOT of experience from just driving through parking lots and side streets with my father. I practiced driving in snowy conditions, wet, dry, and sometimes even through traffic. If it wasn't for those early lessons on driving, safety, and responsibility, I wouldn't be in this car today. Your best friend is experience when driving. A lot of inexperienced drivers jump on cars like these thinking that the car is what makes the driver. Also, if you believe that you can drive an evo, make sure you have self control. There is no one to impress while driving. And if you ever want to become a better driver, I suggest doing some HPDE events or some driving school such as Skip Barber. I did their one day regular driving school and learned a lot from just that. So really think this decision through, and if you feel that you will be a safe responsible driver, then go for it! Otherwise, start off with a somewhat slower car, and gain experience with that. Good luck, and I hope that you make the right decision!
the evo was my second car after a montero sport. If your a good driver and responsible then you will have no problems. If you drive stupid and arent that skilled then you can run into problems real fast.
Buy a safe low dollar manual tranny car with like 90 hp and learn to drive it.
Put the rest of the money in the bank and forget that it's there.
The Evo is NOT the first car you should have and most likely not the second or third either but if you cut your chops, learn and let your intrest grow, you can buy one down the road and be better off and safer for it.

Honestly it is lot of car....yeah, I agree you seem like you are responsible, but realistically unless you have had some carting/racing experience I would go for a Civic Si or VW GTI, I know not as fast blah, blah. The Reality is those cars are very quick and you could easily get into trouble but they are easier everyday cars....
The Evo has so much power, and it is phenomenal but it can be very terrifying also. I am completely amazed by this car. I began driving a Toyota Tercel (Occasionally my folks Benz and Caddy back in the day), Mazda 626, Ford Probe GT, to a Celica GTS and finally to the EVO. The limit of the Evo is so far beyond any of those and I am still learning.
So you have 30K, great, what are you gonna do for maintenance, it is more expensive then you think, and the insurance will be ridiculous...
Take the time and decide what is the best for you.

Seems like you have a pretty level head on your shoulders, more responsible than many 16 year olds, anyway the EVO is a great car but not for a 1st car. If you are not experienced in driving manual vehicles you run the possibility of messing up the tranny on a EVO. I would go with a SI or an RSX, their trannys are very forgiving and really fun to drive, anyway good luck and stay safe.

Evo as a first car.
You will hurt your self, I have done this before.
I was out of my mind and driving like an idiot. ofcourse you will think you are different
but no... It's not only me, bunch of people experienced with big or small accidents during HS years.
also EVO is hard to drive..
The best first cars would be SUV and jeep.
If you have money get ESCLADE, and be a Pimp

I understand the desire for an Evo. However, you should probably get something cheap, just like everyone else said. It is possible for a new driver not to get into an accident, just unlikely. I also concur with everyone about learning to drive a manual first. It would suck to ruin a brand new Evo just because you can't drive stick. That's just my two cents.
