you're not supposed to use roof racks with the aluminum roof on the MR and without fold down seats you're gonna need them.

very good

Those that own both will have the most to offer. I know Max-Q also owns an MR and STi and prefers the MR. Try to PM him. I think you should get an STi so more Evos will be on the lot this spring for me

I think you should keep the srt-4, you want the ride of a honda, and the power of the evo or sti, so you will give up a little to get what you want. I had my car for over 3 years and still love to drive it. so if you want awd then just buy either car.

It's actually the exact opposite.

I've owned an 04 STi and now have an 06 MR. The MR suspension is very nice, and not bad at all for a DD. The newer STIs - 06+ actually ride very well, probably a little more cush than the MR.

Mitsu will be more mod friendly.

STI is the better daily driver - suspension wise/low down torque/less lag.

Mitsu has better seats though.

STI has "bulletproof" 6psd.

MR will be the better stock for stock tracking car.

Its a tough choice, cant go wrong either way really, just need to figure out what you want to do with the car and what you require for yourself if yer gonna daily drive it too.

I really don't know what you're trying to say. A few thought-out, complete sentences usually do the trick.

I currently drive an 03 SRT4, and to be honest I really love the car. The one and only draw back for me is that its front wheel drive, thats it. IMO its got one of best turbo 4s, the gas mileage is far better than the EVO and STI, and I do the like interior. I think the seats kill both STI and EVO. But enough about that, I want an all wheel car. I'm starting to snowboard a lot and I need that option. Plus the STI or EVO MR will be a step up, which I want to take.

I guess I'm back to square one on making up my mind. I have driven both before. I see it like this.

STI pros

- Rides better in town than the EVO.
- Good motor with a nice broad torque range.
- IMO interior is a little nicer than the EVO.
- Styling is pretty sick for 06-07.
- Bigger gas tank for long cruise range.
- Adjustable DCCD is pretty cool.

STI cons
- I guess there having issue with the fly by wire (I really hate fly by wire) ie, bog or stutter.
- Rear seat doesn't not fold down. Which sucks. I don't want a roof rack for my snowboards and gear.
- Stock for stock, slower overall than the EVO MR.
- Heavier than MR.

MR pros
- Awesome drive train.
- Great styling.
- Stock for stock, faster than the STI.
- Prob more mod options.
- As far as I can remember the rear seat folds down.
- Lighter than STI.
- Not fly by wire.

MR cons
- IMO rides like crap for everyday driving.
- STI has better interior.
- For some reason I hate the front seats, very un comfy for me.
- For a 2L to be making big power, seems kinda high strung.

What do you guys think I should do? The car is going to be used as any everyday driver on the crappy pot hole traffic infested streets of Hollywood, and I want to be able to put down some where around 350whp (400whp would be nice but, just enough so I don't feel like I'm taking a step down from my SRT, and not worrying about getting beat by some stock or lightly modded cars), without major mods. No water/meth or NOS. If I have to I want to be able to remove the mods for legit warranty work (not for anything I may have done) or getting it smog-ed.

Thanks, I know this is an EVO forum, but theres got to be some people that know both cars.

Matt
evo rear seat doesnt fold down either

its easy to make 400 hp on the 9

so u have ridden in a new mr. i think its smooth as silk for the type of car it is - especially with the bilsteins.

the 06 mr has a different 4th gear part number. im sure they beefed it up from the old 8 mr.

Gonna double dip on this thread. First off if performance is not your #1 priority then there are other AWD cars that might be a better fit for you.

I do have an 06 STI and a 06 MR. Our MR rides nicer - The STI has more travel but for daily driving the MR has measureably nicer ride quality. The STI just feels springy and stiffly dampened. In-spite of claims of bullet proofness, our STI makes a clunking sound in the tunnel when launched (even mildly - I know, I know to the dealer with it). I realize it's a mount issue but until it's fixed I cant call it bulletproof. What I will say is that the STI clutch is very strong while the Evo clutch is very weak, mitsu claims they intended this to be the weak link to avoid broken tranny's and other driveline problems. It shouldnt be a problem unless your gong to be drag racing the car and slipping it excessively. The STI clutch also has a nice feel where the Evo feels like it must be either in or out. Shifter wise the MR feels extemely precise and redefines the word smooth. The STI is extremely notchy in comparison. The Evo gears are also much longer, and the 4G63 revs much higher - that's probably why it kicks the STI's *** in most performance tests. The STI needs an extra shift to get to 60mph so the Evo seriously stomps it in 0-60. In my experience as soon as our STI has to shift to second that's when the Evo really pulls away from the it. The combination of higher displacement, higher compression, and a smaller turbo give it great low end torque (I think this is why people label it a good DD) but after 3500 rpms it really feels flat and this is where the Evo just starting to make power and starts pulling like a freight train. If you test drive make sure and do a WOT to redline in both cars and you'll see exactly what I"m talking about. My girl doesnt like that feeling of the turbo coming on like gangbusters so the STI suits her well. It has a very linear powerband from launch to redline. Me.. I drive these cars for the feeling they give me, and the Evo inspires alot more confidence. Also, last but not least.. the MR does cost more thant the STI.

One more thing, I've had more problems with my Evo than we have with the STI. My car has had a P0300 issue for 5000 miles (check engine light the whole time, rough idle, etc). The dealer just replaced the injector's this week and it seems like they might have fixed it this time (3 times to the dealer for this issue, car has 13K miles on it now). If it's not fixed I'm going to lemon it although I want another one just like it without the problem that they can't fix.

metric subaru does performance tuning there hence mspt, they are usually ok w/ warrenties to an extent,(basic bolt ons) but i know thats not the case for all dealerships.

Seems like you're trying to get away from pure performance cars, in which case neither the STi or Evo would be ideal. If you need alot of space and drivability, maybe a WRX wagon or Legacy?
