cruising RPM

I'm driving on the interstate going 70 mph and notice that my rpms are at 3500. Is it normal for the revolutions to be this high at highway speed?

On a different but similar note; would having your ECU flashed with the BR Stage I be able to change that at all? Thanks for your considerate responses.

RPM is a function of gearing and tire size.

Thanks for your replies. I assumed it was normal, but you know what assuming makes you. It just seemed a little high at highway cruising speed. That's what I get for comparing to other vehicles. I should know better than that.

That is exactly where I am at. I actually am around 3700 RPM on the highway at like 80mph. But as long as you are off boost gas mileage shouldnt be too bad.

You sure about that? That would mean 187.5mph at 7k rpm. I was never below 3000rpm at 75mph with my 6spd.

This last weekend a buddy with a 05 VIII and I were comparing our cars RPM and his hits 3k at 70mph while my IX hit 3k at 65 mph. We both have the same tire size and both cars are 5 speed. on a side note I noticed that with my oz rally that i used to have I hit 3k at 75 mph.

IXs have shorter gear ratios in 4th and 5th on the 5spd.
