Newbie here, NJ

Well, I am looking into possibly getting an EVO VIII this spring and wanted to come here and see what were some things to look for in a car. Some of the usual problems that might have occurred, any recalls that were prevelent for these models, etc. I currently own a 1995 Mazda RX7 w/ an LS1 in it that I swapped myself. The only problem is that a low rear wheel drive car and NJ winters rarely go together so I am thinking about moving over to a turbo saloon.

What are some issues that the 8 had that I can look to avoid in a potential purchase?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

dont speed on the gsp or rt.9 when you get your animal!

maybe even look for an 2005 (launch control year, less of a chance the owner beat the **** out of the tranny components)

thanks for the help all

Yeah, I realize the risks of buying a used performance car. I was just looking to find out if there are any common problems to look out for when buying the car and any recalls that need to be done.

well people beating on them is a common problem..
it leads to drivetrain component replacement.

My 03 is for sale, or will be shortly, when you're ready shoot me a PM. It's got an upgraded TRE transfer case with forged spider gears in the differential which is the most common problem to go in the 03s. Car's never seen the track, has roughly 15k miles and i commute 40 miles a day with it, just not what I'm looking for in a commuter...

Obviously if someone wants to abuse their evo they will. My point was that in 2005 the car came with a launch control feature from the factory, so clutch dumps could only be had around 5000rpm.
