mbc
mbc
i have an evo ix mr 06 and thinkin about mbc and I am asking for brands works best or moneys worth. For drop in filters which filters works best/ opinions hks k&n ralliart, blitz etc compared to prices......thanks im thinkin about hks, k&n, or ralliart compared to prices.
asked million of times before, but i'll help you out.
as for MBC. people seem to like the Forge UNOS or the hallman pro RX, I prefer the hallman since i'ver heard the ball inside is ceramic so it wont stick in really cold weather.
On to the intake, a drop-in air filter will be fine anything more will be overkill and most likely will hurt your performance. people seem to like K&N because it's a good reliable drop in filter for only $50. Works drop in filter also seems very good but it's twice as much for just a bit more filter area. Problem I see with running the HKS filter is not being able to reuse it. You have to replace it every 10k miles which can be costly in the end. As for the K&N and Works you can just clean/oil them whenever needed.

Well I have the Hallman Pro RX and when I got tuned couldnt hold 22 psi. Good thing I had an extra steel ball and stiff spring. You probably can use the ceramic ball with the stiffer spring but I would just get a regular Hallman Pro with the steel ball and save the money.
I also called Hallman about the issue and Mrs. Hallman told me that the ceramic ball is really only intended for WRX owners who just want to up the boost a pound or two.
If I could do it all over I wouldve bought the cheaper Hallman.

If one were to get the MBC and a drop in filter and cat back exhaust, what sort of pre-fab tune is necessary to compensate for the mods?
Im thinking of doing the same thing, just some small basic mods to get me started, but the tune/flash part has me a bit skeptical. Can you flash the stock ecu yourself, or do you need to drop a pre-flashed chip in?

A lot of tuners offer this service. Just do a search on "email flash" and many vendors will come up.
Another thing is sending in your ECU to a tuner that will flash it at their shop. This might be easier for you because you wont have to buy the tactrix cable. However you will risk your ecu being shipped across seas and your car will not be able to run for a few days while the ecu is out.
evos seem to not use "chips" such as european cars. There are basically reflash/piggyback/standalone. Reflash being the cheapest.

I have experience with flashing my ECU in a different vehicle I used to own, but was unfamiliar with the stock setup of the Evo ECU. Id like to get the cable for my own sanity and data logging purposes anyway, so that will be a definate must.
Im just trying to find a nice mild mod package and premade flash that will work for modest gains. Im trying to contact Warrtalon at the moment for more information on the Buschur Stage 1 Evo VIII package. My location prevents me from finding a good tuner and awd dyno, so this is just more of a pre-planning stage for me. The car isnt going to be dragged, mainly daily driven and occasional track time so the mods are going to be quite mild.
Either way, this has just been a great learning experience

If thats the case the best way to do it would be to order the tactrix cable and order the parts you want. Then you can just email any of the tuners out there and they will email you a tune according to the list of mods you sent them.
Don't be afraid of mix and match manufacturers. I'm personally not a fan of power packages because it usually comes with something I don't really want on my car. Good luck with your choice.

Excellent advice, thank you. I am also a fan of mixing products and such, my inquiry to Warrtalon was more of a "what can you offer" above and beyond a mixmatched set type thing.
Either way, thanks for the input.

Additionally, is there a list of recommended programmers/ecu flash roms that have been tried and true on this site?
I dont want commercial bull**** so to speak, more like "So and so has a great rom file that gives xxxx gains with xxx exhaust and a drop in filter". Obviously im still reading everything I can on this forum, but just wondering if you or anyone else happens to have some insightful links?
Thanks
