Hey Everyone

Hey guys!

I'm new to Evo community and this looks like by-far the best one out there.

Anyways I haven't got mine yet, I plan on getting it in June.

A few questions I have to start off are:

1. How much did you pay for your Evo? I've seen some special deals at the dealerships for them. (Around 26k)
2. What's the insurance like? Of course I'm going to get full coverage on a vehicle like this, and I know insurance varies, but on average how much monthly is it?
3. First upgrades - what is recommended? Any parts that are a 'must need'?
4. IX or MR? What's preferred? What are the main differences?

Thanks in advance, can't wait to get filled in on some of these questions. I look forward to being a part of the community and getting my Evo here in a few months!

First off, can you answer me this....how old are you, are you bigger fan of roadracing, or drag racing, and how is your income (for maintanence reasons). These aren't questions to bash on you at all, it's just so I can better answer your questions.

Not a problem.

I'm 18 and I am a fan of both.

My income is pretty good, specially having the help from my parents still.

Your best bet, is to go price the Evo you want, with the options that you want.
After that go to your bank or credit union and get pre-approved for a car loan.

THEN, go to the stealer. At that point you'll be a cash buyer and there won't be any need to haggle over price, down payment etc. etc.

That is exactly what I did.

Yeah, I planned on just getting a car loan from my bank. I already have over $10,000 saved up for the car, plus I will get more when I sell my old car. It shouldn't be too much of a loan. How much did you pay for yours dj? Is it a IX or MR? How about the insurance costs?

1) I paid 22k for mine. 2003 TB with 26k original miles, owned by a 45y/o businessman.

2) I pay about 170/month. Perfect driving record and im 30 years old.

3) No idea, still researching this myself.

4) No idea, I have an VIII.

Don't drive like a retard

Thanks for the information Hazzard. I know I'm 18 and that might scare some of you but I am much more responible than most. I don't know too many people my age that set goals like getting a $20k+ car when their 18 and have over half of it saved up from their own hard earned cash.

Go to http://www.mitsucars.com/MMNA/jsp/evo/06/index.do?loc=en-u and you can see the differences between the different trim levels.

Yeah I've checked that out before. The only main difference I seen between the IX and the MR is the 5-speed vs 6-speed.

After doing some more research I think I'm going to go with the IX.

You need to look harder. Really.

Some of the other differences include: Bilstein suspension, an aluminum roof, HIDs, gauges, and a host of trim items. All this info (and more) can be seen on Mitsubishi's site.

Hey FJF, I did find the other differences (was just looking at the overview, not the detailed description). I really think that it would just be a better deal to get the IX rather then the MR.

It's a matter of individual priorities/preferences. If most of MR's featured don't appeal to you, there's no reason to spend the extra money. I didn't even consider a MR, because I didn't want the 6-speed, nor did I care for the trim pieces. I did want the aluminum roof, and thankfully other models offered the feature. FWIW, the HIDs are very much worth having, as the stock headlights really aren't very good. I installed the Bilstein (MR) suspension on my SE, which made for a marginal upgrade.
