i've searched and didnt find my answer, sorry if this has been asked 100 times. but i work at a dealership and i'm gonna get them to get an evo there from another dealer and get the employee discount on it so i can get it at a better price. but what i would like to know is whats the difference in getting an 03 evo and getting an 05. i heard the 05 was better from people that service evos and last night i heard that 03's were better from a guy that has an 03. if anyone could help that would be great, thanx.

 

well think about it the 03 was the first one in the states. They have the most bugs in them. 04 got better and then the 05 came with the 10.5 hotside and acd. The 05 was the 3rd year and most of the bigs are gone.

 

03-04.....9.8 hotside, no ACD, No 2 step launch control (but can be remedied with a flash or tune) no electric blue color but did have the blue by you, plastic bov

05....10.5 hotside, ACD, 2 step launch control. electric blue color, still have the crappy plastic bov

 

In lamens terms, can someone explain the 10.5 hotside thing? Ive got a 2003 so I guess it would have the 9.8 or w/e, what are the real gains/differences in the two?

 

cool thanks. but i guy i know that has an 03 that he auto-X's told me to get an 03 becuz of something with the awd or diff or something. i'm probably gonna go with an 05 if i have the money, but is it like way worse to go with an 03? does everyone on here with 03's have problems?

 

10.5 hotside.. it is on the hotside of the turbo.. it allows you to run more boost safely

 

from what ive seen 03 and 04 are basically the same except you can get the ssl package.

The guy that told you that^^^ is absolutely full of chit. The 03 is in no way or shape better than the 05(I am not talking down to the 03 Evo owners).

The 05 offered not just the hot side 10.5 but also the front limited slip differential and off course the ACD.

All combined it was a huge huge advantage. I remember "somewhere in Mexico " when I first got my Evo 8 MR bone stock and a friend with 03 red Evo with a B&B tb and a K&n and we were dead even from 0-105 ("this was in Mexico ") .

Not having the intercooler sprayer on the 05 Evos proved that the water sprayer wasn't that much of help anyway.

The 03s seemed to have a problem with their gear syncros. Many T-cases were replaced generally under warranty unless the vehicle was modified in any way lol.
