Looking into buying an Evo... Insurance Costs For Young Driver?

Hi,
This is my first post here. Currently I do not own an Evo but am seriously looking into purchasing one. I had been looking at early model WRX's because of their low price but after doing some research I feel that the EVO would be well worth the extra money. Just to make a WRX perform like my current car would take more work then I am willing to spend. I want something I can buy and drive the way it is.
I just finished restoring/modifying an older Nissan Z car, Standalone EMS, Holset turbo, suspension... And due to long Maine winters Im thinking of selling it along with my daily driver, 2000 Mazda Protege. Between selling both cars I could come up with a down payment of atleast 10k+. Which would hopefully put a big dent in an Evo, would look to spend about 22k which could hopefully find me a nice 03'? I could easily afford the payments but my problem is insurance I am only 17 but have had my license for about 1.5 years without a single ticket or accident of any sort. Im looking to get some feed back on younger EVO drivers on what kind of insurance they use and how much it costs? Insurance costs are going to decide on wether or not I buy an EVO.

From what I have read EVO's are generally more money to insure then STI's but by how much? And what about on a regular WRX? Although I am not a big fan of the Subarus.

And this is not one of those.. My Dad is buying me an EVO threads. Since the age of 14 I have payed for everything I own. I would apreciate any feedback and depending on wether I get an EVO in the next couple of months or not I look foward to being a part of these forums.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what your rate will be, but whatever you do, make SURE you get GAP (Garunteed Auto Protection) insurance to go along with your full coverage.

See if you can get the car under your dad's name... Still pay for it, but it'll be cheaper if he technically owns it. That's what I do, I got my Evo at 17.

Thanks for the advice, what exactly is GAP?

And I was planning on having it be under one of my parents. Unless its to personal.. could you guys give me a rough estimate on what you were paying? I can't get online qoutes because I am under 18. Also what insurance companies did you use?

Thanks again for the help and fast responses.

Man if you can get 250 a month at 17 for full coverage, i'd say thats pretty good. I was looking at a new gsx when I was 18 and I couldn't afford the insurance...

In ten years it's not so bad though heh.

It also depends on where you live. If you live in a city like minneapolis it will be expensive, but if you live in the country side it'll be about 100 cheaper a month.
