Problem with my evo!!!! HELP

I just bought a stock 03 evo with 30k on the clock. I was driving it home which is about an 8 hour drive. When I test drove it, everything was fine, all gears worked perfect. After about a half hour of driving I stopped to fill up and at the stop light before the gas station I had it in neutral. I went to put it in first and it wouldn't go in. I put it back in neutral and let the clutch out to retry it and it wanted to stall out. It finally went in to first and then it wouldn't go anywhere. After a little bit it started to move and again and it seemed to be fine after that. Any ideas what that could have been?

Also about 3 or 4 hours into the ride, I was cruising at about 75 and all of a sudden the rpms went up but the clutch wasnt slipping. I just completely lost 5th gear!!!! I could get it to go into the 5th gear slot but it would just rev like it would in neutral. The clutch didn't slip once the whole time so I don't think that could be it, but I could be wrong? So i had to finish the trip in 4th gear. Could that be linkage or is the tranny messed up?

And also I am having a hard time putting it into reverse for some reason. It just doesn't want to go in. I called the guy I bought it off of and he wasn't sure what could be wrong with it but offered to pay for whatever needs to be fixed.

Sorry for the long write up. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

dude, why did you travel 8hrs. I hope you dont have to bring it back, it sounds like you got a trans problem for sure. Did this car come from a dealership? because if so, I would be on the phone with them telling them about it. You probably should have gone back after the gas station problem.

sounds like maybe a bent fork or a broken fork for the 5th gear.

Far as difficulty putting it into 1st and reverse thats pretty normal. The dog teeth sometimes wont line up correctly because nothing is moving at a standstill. Shifting it to another gear like... 2nd or 3rd often moves the shafts enough to make the gears slip in.

There are absolutely no evos around here so I had to travel. I shouldn't have to bring it back as I am taking it to a mechanic tomorrow and the guy I bought it from will pay for it. It is a dealer so I'm not worried about getting screwed. After that one little problem before the gas station it was fine so I didn't think much of it.

^^ I hope your right.

Anyways, sounds like trans problems to me.
Had a buddy of mine lost reverse and found out half the teeth on the gears were gone.

If the car is stock you should be able to go in for warranty the EVO comes with a 3year 36 thousand mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 5 year 50 thousand powertrain warratnty. Also if you fall with in the 3/36 they will tow the car for free.

Ok well it is still under bumper to bumper warranty so I am taking it in to the dealer today. They said they will look at it tomorrow. If it is the transmission, does anyone know how long it would take them to fix?

Turns out that an axle wasn't done up right so it came loose or something and let out most of the tranny fluid which made it lose 5th and make it hard to enter reverse and 1st. The transmission is messed up pretty bad but its all going to be taken care of without any money from me luckily. I will post when I get it back and see how it is.

Not exactly sure on the details. All I know is the axle wasn't right which caused the transmission fluid leak and then the destruction of the transmission. If I get any more details I will post them.
