Service Engine Soon Light After DownPipe Back Exhaust Install

I searched but did not get any clear answer.

My "friend" (I woulnd't dare mod my car) installed a Megans racing downpipe back system over the weekend and promplty got a service engine soon light.

He removed the cat and used a resonater pipe from Megan but he installed the o2 sensor in the resonator but still no cat.

I am suspecting that the lack of a cat is what is causing the light.

(1) How to fix this?
(2) Is there damage being done until a tune? He is waiting for a Megan downpipe so he can complete the system with an o2 housing.

Thanks for answering my "friends" questions.

No damage will be done. What alot of people including me are going to the local harware store and buying spark plug ant foulers and putting them on the end of the o2 sensor before screwing it into the exhaust pipe. It has fixed me CEL light.

you can spend $70 for an elictric O2 sim or $3 for some spark plug anti-foulers. As previous stated, check the how-to's. They're in there. You just need access to a drill and i believe 1/2" drill bit to hollow out one of the ant-foulers. Other than that, no special tools needed. Very easy install.

By the way is the Megan exhaust tunable? I mean can you remove the baffles? I saw two bolts at the end of the exhaust.

Also, it is now whistling at idle? WTF?

Autozone or some other parts store should be able to clear you codes for little or no charge.

Megan exhaust isn't tunable.. the two bolts in the back are to hold the silencer in. Mine has a little wheeze/whistle with the silencer in... I don't use it anyways

I hate that wheeze.

Okay so how do I remove the silencer? Do I just pull on it after removing the two bolts?

Does it get insanely and annoyingly loud with the silencer removed? I am using there test pipe also.

Thanks for answering my question.

Hey, it's to each his own about the sound...

I'm surprised you didn't figure it out, as the outlet is really only 2" or so with the silencer in it!! I guess you'll be happy that your car spools so fast.. you might ignore how loud it gets haha

Remove the two bolts when the car is cold, you might have to wrench it back and forth a bit since when I first removed it right away it was really a tight fit and almost jammed in there. Maybe since your car has been running a bit the metal has had some time to work itself a little looser.

I guess it double posted:

But I can comment on this:

As for autozone.. if you're nice enough to the guy then they won't care. I told the guy this: Why not reset it for me? I can just as easily pull my battery terminal and do it anyways, but I'm trying to tune out the problem so it saves me time from letting the ecu relearn. I also pointed out that it won't fool any inspection station, as the OBDII codes need to go through a full cycle before it will pass, so that's not illegal either.

Codes Cleared... fixed the problem with an O2 anti-fouler.
