Safety of Evo 9mr

I am going to college this fall and my parents are looking to buy me a new car. I currently drive a volvo, not even comparable to an evo but very safe. We are looking at an evo9 mr and I cannot seem to find any safety ratings on the car. The only safety ratings I see is for the 2004 evo 8 which only has side and rear ratings, of which the side got a 2 star/rear- 4. Would it be correct to assume that the evo 9 would have similar crash ratings or slightly better? If anyone knows where I can get ratings for the evo9 that would be great. The dealership is filled with a bunch of inexperienced salesmen and contacting mitsubishi directly is almost impossible.

Crash tests for 8 and 9 are probably very similar. What I know for sure is that the rear wing has a crash test rating of 5 stars. =)

The EVOs crash rating is pretty poor. I believe thats the reason there banned from being sold in Canada. People on here have gotten into crashes and been okay though. So you be the judge.

I thought Evos weren't sold in Canada because of the different bumper crash standards...

Anyway, two stars is about right. It's nothing horrible, but it's far from being the safest car on the road. The Subaru, on the other hand, has pretty high ratings. But obviously people like me would rather be on the optimistic side and do everything humanly possible to avoid an accident.

But crash ratings aside, do NOT rely on AWD as a safety cushion in bad weather. It might help you out more so than FWD or RWD, but you can still lose grip. I did before

I agree, it seems like they are trying to take it "up market". Part of that strategy would probably involve better safety ratings.

Those ain't gonna be cheap though. Not sure that's such a great idea for a college student either.

I hate the looks of the evo X and the fact that it is going to be automatic or rather dual clutch.

I agree - the Evo X is probably going to sell more vehicles than any other Evo in the past, but those will be sold to half-a$$ Fast and Furious fans more than enthusiasts.

I saw the prototype at the Detroit Auto Show, and now I'm trying to hurry up and get myself an Evo IX MR before they clear off my local Mitsu dealer's lot!!

Exactly what I wanted to do but the parents control my car choices until I am 18. By that time I wont be able to purchase a new IX and I would hate to buy one used.

You might wait for the X... but it'll be fun for us hardcore VIII and IX drivers to smoke the brand new stock X's, haha
