Need help exhaust stud spinning.

Hi all. First off I did search on this topic but all I find is about broken studs. One of my studs seems to has dropped down when I tried to remove it. But if you try to tighten the nut it pulls the stud up. But if you loosen it it spins like its stripped. It was almost off when this happen. Theres about two thread lengths above the nut. Is there a way to fix this? Should I cut the stud off with an air saw and go with the nut and bolt method I've read about? I want to avoid having to take off the turbo cause its only about 20 degrees here. And that will take quite some time with the manifold still attached. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

about spinning stud
Had same problem with my evo4, had to remove manifold, blow out thread, was able to re-use stud as there was enough thread left in head. If you do same make sure you clean out thread, is most important as bits clog up and stop stud going in far enough. manifold is fairly simple to remove leaving turbo in place . when replacing stud place 2 nuts on the end (manifold removed) and tighten together, put some heat resistant threadlock on stud, tighten to head (do not over-tighten) ,carefully remove nuts. this should fix your problem

was this on the hotside? Cause thats the stud thats spinning. Sorry if i didnt make that clear. I got all the nuts of from the manifold end. It's just the stud on the hotside that spins.

And trying to take off the manifold with the hotside still on could be a task. Thats if it is even possible.

hotside??? I am assuming u mean studs in cylinderhead? My evo has aftermarket headers but standard turbo, had to undo after dump pipe and jiggle everything around abit but was fairly easy to do.

Nope. not on the cilinderhead itself. On the other end of the manifold where it connects to the turbo. There are 2 bolts and 2 studs.

I'm having almost the same problem but one of my studs broke, and I'm getting ready to do the nut & bolt method for that. I'll let you know how that goes
