New guy, give me some direction!
Whats up everyone, soon to be 04 evo owner here. Im going to get her next wednesday. Im slightly familiar with the 4g63 power. I had 2 1g dsm's (which were nightmares!) but I learned alot from working on them. I got rid of them both and jumped into a 99 LS1 camaro. That got slow so then I went to a 03 cobra. I made 620rwhp with my whipple cobra, but now I need something I can drive all year round. So here comes the evo...
Ive been browsing around alot of sites looking at different parts/setups, but can't seem to decide on anything yet. Obviously I want this car to be fast, very fast. But I need to keep it dependable and what not.
My main question is, what are some major differences in parts for the evo? I've seen air intakes for $70-300, exhaust pieces with HUGE price differences, ect ect...
Is brand name the way to go, or can a "ebay" evo put down some good numbers?
For the cobra, the main mods were to swap the pulley, change the intake and exhaust and throw in a predator tune to get a good start in power...
I plan on getting a good exhaust setup, intake, but how do I get this thing tuned?

i would not get an intake at all.keep the stocker and get a works drop in air filter, the ecu on evo's are very senstive, you will proably lose power with an intake until you get tuned. looks like you want big numbers i would go with a gt35r and aem.and cam's.and you pay for what you get you want ebay crap u get ebay crap.
you could get it tuned by dynoflash(al)
or sean ivey those are the only people i would let tune my car.
by the way welcome.

Ok... so for starters, would a TBE, intake, boost controller, flash tune be a good starting point? The gt35r and supporting mods are definitly a few months away for me, but I need to get this thing rolling to beat my buddy's wrx.
Check out the buschur stages at www.buschurracing.com they make great parts and have good prices. You will definitely learn the proper order to upgrade your car. Check out the other stage upgrades as well, AMS, vishnu etc. and compare you will learn a lot about how to upgrade your new baby the right way. I would definitely throw in the walbro fuel pump and BOV if it doesn't already have one. The stock BOV on the VIII is not that good. Enjoy your new car and be safe out there
If you don't have the dough to buy a few parts at once, I'd suggest you leave the Evo stock for a while. Since you're buying a 04 it's most likely used, so it is also a good idea to leave it stock for warranty, in case there are minor issues that need to be taken care of.
As for mods, what the others have suggested are a great place to start. Before you think about getting a GT35, I'd recommend getting Stage 4 done to your car and maxing out your stock turbo first. I always thought I wanted BIG turbos but I've since realized I'm more than happy with 340whp.
