noob question about gaining hp.

i'm just going to be blunt about this topic. I will be getting an evo 9 se within the next month. My power goals are about 350awhp with crappy 91 octane gas in california. I've chosen that goal because i'm not looking forward to upgrading the block or head (maybe just cams). My evo is going to be strictly daily driver with occasional stops at the drag strip and auto-x track. I've researched turbos and found that a 20g turbo or 50 trim kit will do the job. I'm leaning towards a 20g because it's plain bolt on. My questions are...

ECU:
I've seen many flashes, piggybacks, and standalones here on evolutionm.net. What is considered good for ECU tuning? I'm from the honda crowd and i was running hondata k-pro which a standalone ECU. I've learned from my honda that flashes are good, but using a standalone ecu is better because every engine is unique. Every engine will have to be tuned differently.

I have read many people here using flashes. Only the hardcore people shooting for about 500awhp + are going the standalone route (i.e. AEM ems). Are flashes reliable? Can shops "flash" my evo ix ecu or do i have to send them out to a company?

MISC:
Are there other ways to attain about 350awhp using a stock turbo? i've searched but haven't read any engine combos to get me there.

Thanks for the time in reading this.

~Patrick

what brand ecu flashes are good? i've seen ecutek and flashes from buschar and AMS. For hondas there were only two companies out there. That was hondata and AEM ems. For the evo their are SOOO many choices. hehe

for flashes check out www.tactrix.com for an interface cable from the ODBII port to a USB port. Then go to www.openecu.org for flashing and tuning software for the evo called EcuFlash with which you can tune and flash your own ECU. Also take a look at http://www.limitless.co.nz/EvoScan/ for evo datalogging software which uses the tactrix cable.

Cable ~ $90
EcuFlash FREE!
EvoScan $25

Also vendors can send you maps via email for you to upload thru ecuflash or shops with dynos can use ecuflash to tune your car

In SoCal you can go to Tuning Technologies or Road Race Engineering. They both do awesome work and awesome tuning.

www.tuningtechnologies.net
www.roadraceengineering.com

BR Stage 1 and cams. I guess that's good enough.

It would be nice for someone to say I have tried tuner A,B,C,D flashes and prefer Tuner (X) for the money. Stating I prefer tuner (x) without having experience with A, B, C, D is an interesting comment, considering the lack of experience with the other tuners who were NOT tested via eflash.

Hope that makes sense.
