Question Brand new Evo MR - Have questions....

Hey guys nice to meet you all I just bought a brand new Evo 9 MR. It's a really nice grey one. I had an Rx8 with 10,000 miles on it and I wasnt happy with the torque with the car, and I wanted to go turbo but the Renesis is too high a compression engine for that.

Anyways...

The car sounds good stock, but I want to make it louder: I was searching on lancershop.com and they have an "authority catback system exhaust" that I figure I might get, its relatively cheap compared to the price of the others. I'm looking for the exhaust kit that will sound relatively loud and still free up a bit of power due to less exhaust restriction. I am not positively sure if I want to go with a TBE (turbo back exhaust) yet... (if that stinks in the car I probably wont do it) - Also I was curious if it is necessary to get the timer that hooks into the ignition that makes the engine run for a minute or so when you turn the key off. This helps cool the turbo down. I have been starting the car and letting it run for about 2 minutes before driving, I have also been letting it idle for 45 seconds or so before turning it off.

The car is fantastic so far, just the brakes squeak REALLY bad about 5% of the time when I just am coming to an easy stop in about 2nd gear. The dealer said the brembo's take a few miles to wear in, but this might be bull-tish. - Pictures of my car are on my myspace, its www.myspace.com/djturbojp7 if anyone would like to see.

if the brake squeek that is because it is new. mine took up to 8000 miles before it stopped. if you're planning on a turbo timer, might as well get an alarm with remote start and turbi timer built-in like the compustar. it works great and you can use remote start to warm up the evo on cold mornings.

Oh I did take a good look trying to search for an answer. I found so many different posts on exhausts but nothing special that really helped. I'm used to forums because I have been on rx8club for years.

I don't know why you want your car to be loud but..if you want a loud set up go with Greddy titanium mated with a hfc(high flow cat) or a test pipe with a mated downpipe.
There are a lot of members running that set up and they seem to be really happy with the exhaust. It also one of the best cat backs out there.

As far as turbo timers go...I really don't see a need to get one unless you track your car heavily.
I never had a turbo timer on any of my turbo cars. I just let it cool down for a few minutes before I shut off if I"ve been boosting heavy before the car came to a stop.

Anyways, welcome to the forum and enjoy.

Greddy ti. Expensive though and will not melt your bumber. Oh and very light, the lightest catback, or one of the lightest.

I really dont expect to ever take my car to a racetrack. I'm an engineer and I wanted the EVO because I am addicted to japanese cars and I love the technology that the car has. awd is really cool. My favorite car of all time is the Skyline GTR34, but its to expensive to get in the USA. I was really happy I got an MR 9 because I think they 10 looks like a cartoon car. I love loud exhausts. I swaped a 13B-REW (Mazda Rx7 Engine, 3rd generation) engine into a Ford Focus Hatchback and made a custom bent pipe it was really loud. (had to use the V8 swap kit/RWD and make some personal modifications) - I get goosebumps when I hear exhausts notes out of the windows of my house, even if most of them are coming from loud honda civics! - I dont know about going with the GReddy TI exhaust, it is expensive, but I dont really see the need to save a little weight when the exhaust itself has such a low center of gravity, If I were saving that weight at the roof's height that maybe it would be a better investment. I figured I'd try catback first then swap a catless-midpipe later if I decide too: Thanks for your reply.

I think the rule is, every 100 pounds removed from a car is the equivalent of gaining 10 whp. The buschur TBE is rediculously light and fits perfectly.

Anyways, I have an 06 MR with the buschur turboback. I have the Hfc (highflow cat) and magnaflow. Nice rumble, no smells, super light, and the turbo spools up super smooth now. I wouldn't try to play mix and match with a tbe. It never works out right, so do it right the first time and get a true 3 inch TBE. I love my buschur, and I think you'd really like the HFC and bullet muffler combo. No smell and loud, or you can get the HFC and magnaflow. A little quieter, but still pretty loud and probably won't attract as much police attention.

You might want to take a look at Buschur's Warrtalon package. Good bang for the buck and will get you some real impressive power gains.

And don't let warrtalon put you off. He's a grumpy sob but he does know what he's talking about (usually ). I'll put up with a grumpy SOB who gives good advice over a pleasant but clueless person any day. And for god sakes DO NOT REPLACE THE BOV. The IX's bov is excellent, if you decide you want to hear the PSSST louder look into a K&N drop in filter or something.

Also steer clear of the K&N typhoon (doesn't work right), and if you decide to replace your intake YOU MUST GET IT TUNED or you'll regret it.

Ohh another thing I was going to tell you is that I was planning on doing one of the viper alarms with the keychain pager. I have a viper alarm in my Ford Ranger Pickup and I love it. So this other alarm with the turbo-timer is better you think? does it have a pager setup? Thanks

viper is made by DEI. so is clifford and python and a bunch of other ones. they are basically the same and any remote start alarm can be configured to be a turbo timer.

Just bought a new 06 MR myself and want to the hear the "PSSST" louder. Was going to get a new BOV, but now just thinking to get a new intake from what I've read. Curious as to why you say it will have to be tuned if I put a new intake on it?

The Greddy Ti is byfar the best sounding exhaust ive ever heard, i wish i had the money to buy one.

If you want a nice exhaust also, HKS Hi-Power is ok (its what i run) its nice clean sound, loud, but not to loud. Buschur is also a really good choice, extremly loud, lightweight, awsome all around!

pm me and i can give u some details on a few exhausts

Intakes can make the car run very lean, which is very bad. Only way to fix it is with a tune.
