Got it - 06 Silver SE - Impressions

Hey Guys - Well I flew from Albany, NY to Kansas City to pick her up on Thursday. After a few hours of test drives and signing my life away I drove out of the lot into a nasty t-storm. The clutch is a million times lighter than my old 5 liter mustang. I varied the rpms and the load on the motor for the first 500 miles to indianapolis. Was tempted but didnt go above 4.5k. Then I slowly started to get on it but still didnt take it above 5k until just over 1300 miles. Its fast but I love the way it handles more than anything! I took some corners in the mountains of PA at ridiculous speeds and it didnt as much as flinch! The fiance said "she hated it" at first site but by the end of the weekend she was smiling when we were going good...also let her drive it which helped. I do hear the throw out bearing when off the clutch in neatural - ive searched and it appears to be normal. Right? Always heard it in my mustand even with new tranny and clutch so im not worried. I spent 6 hours detailing it today - starting with mothers paint cleaner and then used the claybar to remove the crust that has built up since it was mfg in July 06. I HIGHLY recommend the clay bar system if your car doesnt feel baby *** smooth. I then put a coat of p921 carnuba wax on it - in the words of Borat - "its a' nice"
Its a porker on gas, I only barely managed 23-25 on the highway at around 80. Of course gas went up like .20 a gallon from the time I left till I returned. Didnt burn any oil which is awesome. I also forked up $1500 to upgrade the warranty to full bumper to bumper 10years/100k. Funny they didnt offer it to me - and I only realized it was avail when doing the paperwork and they wanted me to check off the box that said "I reject extended warranty" wonder if they do that on purpose? The wheels are sick - I love them. I love the way it handles!! I'm leaving it stock as its my dd and Im plenty happy with the performance as is knowing mitsu will pay should anything go wrong...Also have a GSXR600 for another toy so fast is relative to me...Anyway sorry for the novel. Feedback is appreciated on the throw out bearing noise. I will take some pics when the sun comes back out. BTW - Overland Park Mitsu got me a awesome deal. $28,750. Yes - I gave them more in terms of the extended warranty, tire/wheel warranty but I was VERY impressed with my salesman - Brian Roman. If your looking and dont mind the adventure of driving home - def give him a ring - he knows his shi*.

Cant wait to hit some of the twisties in the mountains around here. When should I do the first oil change?

Gratz wow 28k for SE. Paid 28k for regular 9 4 months ago =/
Btw try reading post about warranty. Mitsu will avoid ur warranty when you start modding your car.

anyway I gave up my warranty(didnt take it to dealership yet), I'm going to fix problems I encounter. New to manual and modding car but I'm starting to learn and figuring out alot from this forum.

kind of

I could have driven away for $28,750 + 189 Dealer Charge. I didnt pay tax, title, registrtation because Im out of state. But- I did fork over some extra money for the extended bumper to bumper warranty. Recommend waiting till the end of the month to buy - if a dealer sells enough cars they get bonus incentives for selling a few more. The bonus could be lucrative - hence them willing to let a car go for less than you usually see...

Damn, and I've been complaining about the possibility of driving 850 miles to pick one up at Don Herring. I'll hafta look into Overland Park since they're about 300 miles closer and $1k cheaper. I haven't talked to most of my "local" dealers yet (closest one w/ an Evo is nearly 200 miles), but the one I talked to on Saturday wasn't getting the point that I couldn't afford, nor did I want their MR. They had 5 other Evos at various lots in the area but insisted on selling me that one after I told them at least 5 times I didn't want an MR. I had fun reaming the crap out of it though...the salesman started it.

23-25 mpg is very normal even after break-in. The 10 year/100k mile warranty is standard on all mitsubishi's including the evo. They tricked you by letting you check-off the extended warranty and charging you $1500.00. If you can tell your salesman that he did that then he might give you the $1500 back. Unless the $1500.00 is for some aftermarket or third party insurer that warranties the evo even if it is modified(I highly doubt it). Congrats on the drive!

Thanks

to you that read the post carefully and notice I said Im leaving it stock as to prevent Mitsu from giving me crap about the warranty. Also - I dont think I got tricked into the 10 Year/100,000 Mille BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. Normal warranty is 5year/60,000 bumper to bumper and then 10year/100,000 Powertrain ONLY. I think $1,500 was a decent price for that extra 5 years/50,000 miles BUMPER TO BUMPER? Were you guys given the option for that?

Mods, no mods doesn't matter. They'll just claim you abused the car and void the warranty anyways.
