To drive or not to drive
So I want to go to Florida this weekend, well tomorrow, and be back on Monday. Now this is the scenario, I work for an airline, but most of the flights are oversold. So I decided to drive down there, I will be traveling on RT95 South, and I expect the drive to be 16-18 hrs long.
Has anyone ever driven their EVO that far? And if you did, have you taken any precautions to protect your front end from chipping? I am trying to get down there no matter what.

cant you hitch a ride in the luggage room or something? working for an airline i would try and hook something up...16-18hrs in a car is way too much for me. but definally put some tape or something on the front end, your car will take a beating. evo's do suck for long trips since they dont really have an over drive or cruise control
I did when I bought my evo- it was in chicago and I flew up there, landed at 11:30 their time and drove 13 hours home to Greensboro NC. No precautions, just lots of Coca-cola, red bull, and gas. I stopped at every state welcome center to get a road map of the state and whenever I felt like it. Just be sure the radar detector is working overtime and keep eyes open for cops, they like our spoilers

I just took my Evo on a 950 mile trip. Not quite as long as New Jersey to Florida. If you are really worried about your front end, I'd put some blue painters tape that is used to protect your front end at the track. It will look a little ghetto, but it will definitely protect your whole front end. Then just peel it off when you get back, all the bugs, and road debris that has found its way on your front end will be gone immediately. Of course, I have a clear bra which is way better and is great for deflecting all the build up you get from a long road trip. But that is $500 compared with $3 for a roll of the tape. Just remember to leave at least the top 1/3 of your headlights exposed if you will be driving at night.
it was a blast!! if I had to do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat but with a buddy and not alone- kinda hard to change CDs and drive at the same time- the buddy would have to serve as DJ and Navigator a la Bullrun Style!!
if someone is riding with me, i would bring a video camera just in case someone wants to test the Evo.
There are quite a few ricers but we have cars that make real power also. Joe with the red Ford GT TT (I think 42r's now) lives here in Jacksonville, making something like 1500whp...so bring the evo and come play
.
If you dont mind some bug or rock damage, possible foot falling asleep with ankle pains, worse gas mileage, and the unknowns, then drive the car.
Have a safe trip
Just wait until you drive through VA with an Evo...Cop magnet. I say rent a car...if someone goes wrong the rental place can fix it or give you another rental.
But if are going to drive down...blue painter's tape and the mirrors, front bumper, side skirts...hell just turn it into a Blue By You Evo
