Rust already??

Hey Mates:
My IX has been stored in the garage since winter hit, and when I was cleaning it up this week I noticed rust on the exhaust manifold already. Has anyone else had this problem? The car has only 2K miles on it, and has never seen the rain or snow yet. Hehe: yeah yeah it is a garage queen for now, just been driving my Monster truck during the winter months.
I am tempted to go to the delearship and let them have it, but wanted to check with you all first.

Rust on the manifold is normal. It is cast iron and will rust with just the moisture in the air.

YEP... that's why the shield is there, so it's not visible.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread but I have some rust spots too.
I have some rust spots (tiny little dots) on the trunk.
I've called the dealer I bought it from and they told me to put some wax and it should buff out.

I have a feeling it's not gonna buff out.
BTW, my car has 14k miles and they told me to bring it by after trying to buff it out
if it's still there.

You think it's gonna buff out?

Rust does not buff out. The rust is coming up through the paint, how do they expect you to buff it out. You might be able to get rid of the rust but there will be no paint left. I bet they want you to try and get rid of the rust so that they can deny your claim for normal wear and not from rust. Don't touch it and bring it in. They have to fix it! (well should may be the better term)

Ummm, the shield is there to dissipate heat... hence why it's called a heat shield. And rust on the exhaust mani is fine.
