I want weight evo!

sorry for newbie question..

I have got 06 IX GSR...my mods are: tbe, upper lower piping, hks racing suction kit, cosworth cams...
as I know my car is 1470kg... I want to beat some EVO6TME ... 6tme is 1380kg right ?

I'm thinking to take down ; window automatic systems, air conditioner system, stock flywheel,battery...this kind of stuff... etc...

here is my questions ;

how can I lose 100kg?

guys do you recommend cusco LSD ? (because I know my acd system is 50-70 kg ! so, cusco has got very low weight as I know?)

is cusco LSD will cause problems...? because I'm not track racer, generally I use my car at streets... my only goal is to lose 100 kg and more...

front and rear crash beams= maybe 50lbs.
sound insulator removal=maybe 15lbs.
AC removal= 30-35lbs
spare tire= 25lbs

those alone I think are worth about 100-120lbs.

Although I think you should've bought an RS, I cant imagine not having AC especially since you're
in Cali.
Why are you so worried about removing weight?
Are you going to make it into a strictly track car?

Well, Cusco front and rear lsds will definately not let the wheels slip on track, but far as weight wise i do not know.
If you are considering building a straight track car, I would go with Cusco just for the performance they are known for.

I removed my A/C...dropped around 35 lbs. Goodluck on being lighter than the Evo6, they are very lightweight compared to the ct9a chassis (and capable of getting much lighter).

a evo is a great DD. dont strip it and kill it
i dont understand why weight should be a problem in a boosted car. all you have to do is make more power to compensate for the weight. and power is easy to come by ion these cars

Are you joking? You do realize what weight does the handling of a car right?

Exactly. You can have a heavy car with a 1000hp, and it will still handle like a heavy car. Weight affects momentum, inertia, etc. Physics 101 my friend.

the weight is the enemy for power ,handling, braking.Effect the whole overall caracteristic for car.
Some guy's claim it is not noticable difference between gsr mr and rs.
well those guys honestly never drived those cars hard. You deffenietly feel the weight differences.
If you have less weight your suspension will be harder so you get more sharper and more responsive steering feel, better handling, the break power will be stronger, acceleration will be stronger /out of corners specially/ etc.
You try it your self. drive the same course alone ,then with your friend and then with 3 guys...You will know.
So to build the car , can be /or should be/ based on your car weight. How much HP and tq you need, coil overs with what kind of set up, what kind of sway bars etc .The good tuner car is always BALANCED.

Dude, there are tons of topics speaking of weight, buying a cusco LSD to save you a few pounds is simply absurd. You can do other more usable things like buying a lightweight battery, like buying a lighter cheaper rims, like removing the front and/or rear crash beam, floor mats, front and rear washer fluids, even any exhaust after market will save you a whole lot.

When is time to do the rotors, go with any two piece rotors, you will save more weight, these are just some tips that generally everyone does. Changing your ACD for the Cusco lsd I am inclined to say you are in the wrong path.

Whenever you want to change the stock suspension you can count with another average savings of 15-20lbs with a good set of aftermarket coilovers.

Try to make your tuning and power bolt ons the priority, a good tune and the right part can make up the difference of light weight.

My .2c

+1 again, leave the ac and instead of getting rid of all the seats just replace the front seats with nice lightweight racing seats... and then if you ever race take out the back seat (its really easy to take out, and no, i'm not just talking the bottom foam pos).

Weight reduction steps according to Buschur if you would like to know for an Evo 9. I've removed BR only steps since they wont apply universally.
  • Installation of Mini Battery Kit: 20 lbs. The stock battery setup weighs 37lbs, the mini kits weigh in at 17 pounds.
  • Removal of Front Bumper Support: 13lbs.
  • Removal of Rear Bumper Support: 17 lbs.
  • Removal of Spare Tire, Jack, and Tool: 37 lbs.
  • Removal of Intake Bracket & EGR: 5lbs
  • Removal of Interior Sound Deadening & Padding: 17.5 lbs.
  • Replace Factory Rims w/ SSR Competiton 17" wheels: 6.4lbs (Weight loss using stock size/brand tires will be more, this is a total weight saved factory in the a larger tire (255/40/17).
  • Replace Factory Suspension w/ DMS Coilover Setup: 6.6 lbs. The DMS suspension weighs a total of 58 lbs. while stock is 64.6 lbs. OR You can use the HKS RS Suspension that has a total weight of 48 lbs. which will save you 10 more lbs.
  • Removal of AC Compressor & Condenser: 29.6 lbs.
  • Steering Column Plastic & Metal Insert: 1 lb.
  • Installation of Carbon Fiber Trunk w/ out wing: 10.6 lbs. The stock trunk weighs 22.5 lbs.with no wing.
  • Stop Tech 335 mm Front Brakes: 7.7 lbs.
  • DC Sports Front Strut Tower Brace: 4.9lbs.
  • Remove Brake Shield: 1.5 lbs.
