Question Evo Hunting, a few questions ? ? ?

Hi Guys,

I am once again on the hunt for an Evo and am now located on the East Coast. I did live on the West Coast and owned an 05 WRX STi but would really like to own an Evo now. I know I am looking for a used 2006 Evo 9 MR but want to know what would be a fair price for the car. I drove an Evo 9 MR and fell in love, it just felt so much more focussed that the STi.
I know brand new evo 9 MR's can be had for $32,000 so with that being said what does it make them worth in the used market place. At a guess I was thinking 27k-29k depending on condition and miles. Does that sound about right ?
Now just a couple more questions, whats the difference between an MR and the MR SE, what is the regular maintenance schedule like on the Evo 9's and what warranty will a used Evo 9 have assuming I will be the second owner. Finally, when looking at these cars in the used market place should I be looking for anything in particular or just the regular used car checks ?

Thanks,
MarK.

They are worth more than 27-29k, because the new price you listed is only at the below invoice wholesale-type price that SouthCoast and its partners give. That is not the true value of the Evo, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to try to buy a barely-used IX MR when you can get one brand new for such a low price.

Please do not ask for the difference in the SE - that information is easily available with only the slightest bit of research right here on this site.

Maintenance schedule??

Any used IX will probably be a pretty big risk, because that means someone bought and dumped it pretty quickly, and that could mean they modded it and screwed it up, they tore up the clutch quickly, they busted the trans or t-case and couldn't get warranty work, or they trashed it and got rid of it. Yes, it's possible to find one that's pristine and never modded, but I wouldn't count on finding one.

I appreciate the reply, based on what your saying buying used looks pretty risky but I am going to do my research before I take the plunge and buy brand new. I believe there are deals to be had on lightly used evos and I also doubt that all the cars have been abused in the way you mention. If the car looks clean, has a clean title and has had all regular services performed I cant see too much trouble as the car will still be backed by the factory warranty. N e way and other opinions would be greatly appreciated and if any one know what the regular service schedule is please let me know as I will be looking for a car that has proof of maintenance based on what the factory suggests.

Thanks,
MarK.

Yes Mark,

If you're lucky you'll find something just a bit under $30K, but again, they're not common so you'll just have to do some hunting around. Go see the car and you make your own judgement on the condition. Things like the tranny and clutch you can't really tell much. The car is obviously much like the subaru, so I'm sure you can imagine what one good beating could do to the car. Checkout the rust as they use salt like mad on the roads in the new england area.

Good luck!
