how much oil?

I know its 4.9qt from using search.
My car has only 2800 miles. Got first oil change at 600 and got it today at 2800
at 600, I found out I need 4.9qt searching through the board.
So I bought 3.9qt and 1 qt bottle.
After filling in, I checked my oil level. It was way above the 2 lines.
I left it alone for next oil change.

Today I did my oil change using 4 1qt bottles and 1/2 bottle.
Its still way above 2 lines.

How much oil do you put in your car? the service manual said its harm to put too much oil in the engine due to some oil pressure.

To much oil is no good, drain some out.Just add four quarts then add a little at a time and keep checking until you get between the marks on the dipstick.

The really is 4.9qts but when you change your oil you never really drain all 4.9qts out if at most i say you drain 4.5qts. Too much oil is no good. I always buy my 5gallon jug at walmart and put in around 4.5qts that gets it right in the middle.

I realize that this is frightfully basic, however, after changing the oil filter and filling the crankcase with oil, did you start the engine, and then turn it back off again, before checking the oil level on the dipstick? Just making sure that you're taking into account the 1/2 quart that the oil pump must prime into your new, empty filter, if you didn't pre-fill it with oil before installation. Always check oil level on a level surface.

Hey, I have a related question! When we drain the crankcase oil is there still some old oil left in the oilcooler and its feed and return lines?

Well, you'd have to pull the cooler apart after draining the oil to know. However, it makes sense that if you start adding places for oil to hide then that is likely to happen.

Another factor is that people are using a number of different sizes of oil filters. When I use the filter that codes for the Dodge Stealth it takes five quarts to fill my Evo's crankcase.
