IX Stealth Power in California

I'll be honest; it sucks living in Cali and being a car guy. . . . .
So my question is, what mods can be done to an IX evo in California and still have a cop not know its modded. I know things like ecu and cams a cop couldn’t tell, but what other mods could be done?
Also how much power & tq at the wheels could an ix make and still look stock?

You can get a full stealth TBE system and still look/sound stock.

Stroker

there are quiet exhaust options out there.
drop in filter
walbro fuel pump
reflash
cams
ebc or mbc (idk are they trained to know what/where these are?)
you can look into having a somewhat stealth gauge setup. Ex. I'm going to be using a zeitronix display for everything (boost, a/f, egt) and putting it in the little storage space below the radio and then make a cover for it so when I want nobody will know it's there. (Now hopefully it will fit when I get it, by my measurements it should but, ya never know)

Ported intake/exhaust manifolds (please don't shoot me if this isn't a worthwhile mod for our cars, I'm just getting into these engines, but generally speaking this is something that can be done that they wouldn't be able to tell)

Just don't put anything too shiny under the hood and always have a recirculating bov if you decide to change out. IDK why you would change the IX diverter valve for anything but the forge, but that's just me

look at my mods ... my car is pretty quiet and fast ... you can just open up the cut out when you go to the track and you'll be set

RRE sells a Stealth Cat Back, full 3" all the way, including tip. They Powder Coat it black for that extra stealth look.

Wow, do they (The Bull) really care about the gauges or are you just throwing that one in?

I live in Cali and seriously it isn't that bad, if the cops f*ck with you, they f*ck with you and it doesn't matter where you live. I run a test pipe and I haven't had one single problem with a cop, maybe I am lucky, but it all depends on if a cop wants to be a dick or not and I assure you there are just as many cops willing to give you tickets in other states as there are in Cali. My only complaint is the 91 craptane gas we have here, but as far as everything else it is just fine. If you are truly worried, don't get a test pipe and just run a HFC. Might lose a little horsepower, but it will give you a lot more peace of mind. As far as other mods, like Cams and etc., I worry not about cops, but the Mitsubishi dealership and my warranty which as far as I know no longer exists.

IDK, I don't live there, but I would think the pillar gauges might catch their eye a bit more. I'm planning on having it hidden so that I don't have to answer co-workers questions when we go out to lunch

most cops look at a stock evo and think it's modded. so you're screwed from the start.

in other words, just do what you want.

Get a rally cat from RRE instead of a HFC.

I went wingless for a couple of weeks thinking I'd be invisible...it worked, until I got pulled over for tint. It just depends on your car...I've never been hassled for mods, only for tint twice. I have a Greddy SP2 sprayed black...was thinking about the RRE Stealth exhaust but I just came up on a good deal. <see old pics here>

I'm sure there are quite a few local norcalevo.com members that run stealthy setups and can still make decent power.

I've even seen a fellow in norcal running a GT30R and looked stock under the hood.

Go to some of the local meets and ask to look under the hood for ideas.

take off the spoiler, paint the intercooler black, drop in filter, stealth exhaust, put all the gauge inside glove box, 20G-Green Turbo, port exhaust manifold, hide all the boost controller line. Now a day, cop just give out state ref ticket which it is a ***** to deal with. You gotta take the car for full inspection and those people KNOW the stuff. They chase the boost line for any aftermarket boost controller. They can heard the cam. they ask you to point at where your stock ecu at.

You have a IX. Here is what a stock IX did on a Mustang Dyno with just a reflash.
http://www.norcalevo.net/index.php?o...&topic=17580.0
FYI this dyno reads low and is about 10%-12% lower than a typical dynojet.

Even using the low 10%, it comes out to about 293whp/306wtq on a dynojet. If that is still not enough power, get an Apex Noir CB, Tanabe downpipe,a drop in filter, and an RRE Rallycat. The rallycat is basically a resonated test pipe with the stock cat heat shields on them. The Apex noir is more easily attainable than the RRE Stealth right now(Apex is going out of business though)and looks stock.

Those mods and a tune from someone that knows how to tune using a modified stock boost solenoid or a gm boost solenoid will net you close to 290/290 on that same dyno in the link, that equates to about 320/320 on a dynojet. The plus is the fact that your car will look totally stock. Even the rally cat looks like the stock cat. You can dare a cop to try to find a mod on you car. You can even use the stock diverter valve(BOV) since it can hold the boost better than the plastic ones on the VIII's.

Almost anyone in the Bay Area can tune you since you live in San Jose. You have GST in Hayward, Speed Element in Fremont, and EIP near San Jose. Do a search on here or Norcalevo.net and you can find great info on any questions you have regarding the things I mentioned on this post.

Good Luck
