What's the purpose of removing the vent??

I believe removing the vent actually hurts cooling when moving. Think of a convertible or truck bed.... the air goes over the windshield/cab, and then recirculates into back into the area.
Like i said, well over a year and im fine. The only time it will really have a negative effect on cooling is if you are on a Road Course for extended periods of time.

unfortunately there is no independent test to prove there is improved/decreased cooling by the existence or lack of heat louvers

I have a AMS kit and the headers are a couple centimeters away from the vent, but I still kept it . I don't think it does much, but you never know, I have heard bias opinions.
