Evo 9 Front bumper removal
Evo 9 Front bumper removal
I'm in the midst of removing my Evo 9 front bumper and I can't seem to get it off. I followed the "How To" but that is for an Evo 8, and it seems as if the 9 might have a bolt or two that aren't mentioned in that write up. I've done everything the write up said, minus the intercooler sprayer issue, obviously, and I still can not get the bumper off. On each side of the bumper it's already yanked off the tabs and is hanging; however, there seems to be some resistance in the middle of the bumper, and I honestly can't figure out what to unbolt or unscrew. Anyone who has removed their Evo 9 front bumper, I'd be greatly appreciative with some help at the moment. Thanks in advance.

It's probably the bolts that are on either side of the intercooler. Just above the two oval ducts, there are smaller oval plates (slightly larger than a smashed quarter). You have to pop those plates out (there's a flat edge on one side for a gentle flathead screwdriver) to expose the bolts on either side of the intercooler. Get an extention for your 10mm socket, and you'll have them out in a minute. If that was the missing piece of your puzzle, then the bumper should pop straight out and off.
I just figured that out right before I read that! I wondered if there might be bolts behind those two ridiculous little holes, and there were! Thanks for the fast response none the less, I appreciate the help!

No problem! Glad to hear you got it figured out --- FWIW, I was in the exact spot you were when I was trying to get mine off, because I use the Evo8 how-to as well! Funny how life is sometimes . . .

Its actually quite surprising how few bolts/widgets there are holding the bumper cover on the car. Most of them are plastic. The bumper feels securely attached, but I'm amazed that it doesn't fly off in the wind! :-)
if it's a 9, then yes.
There is a bolt behind those plastic clips.
one is behind the plate and passenger side one has to be removed as
well since there is another bolt behind the plastic clip.
You should be able to remove the front bumper in about 20min or so.
It's not a hard job but a time consuming one.

quick advice: when your putting it back. theres two screws in front of the bumper below the grill. make sure you dont overtight it or it will break. it happend to me when i was installing mine back. my brother said something to me and i kept on going, next thing i know, i heard a snapped. i was like oh ****! f*ck!! i still havent remove the rest of the screw.
