Cold car
Cold car
I have a very stupid question......Im wondering what would happen if your Evo was off say over night and you crunk it up and tired to go full throttle, like without warming it up. What would happen would the oil be to cold and not run or would the ECU keep it out of boost to save the car. I never have plans on doing this and I know its stupid but I have a wondering mind.
well if you have ever been in a rush and havent been able to warm up your car it hardly even moves and theres a delay for the car to even move when you go into second gear. I would not recommend going full throttle right on start up.
it drive somewhat like it would normally. I'm sure not as fast as when it's warmed up but it would boost all the way and it would be a ***** to shift gears since the oil would be too thick. I can see it damaging the engine, not instantly but down the road.
I believe Evo's IX have a boost regulator that if your car isn't fully warmed up, it won't hit full boost(don't know about the XIII). If your car was really cold and you hit boost right away, it damages your car as the oil is not warmed up and does not flow smoothly in your engine. The chances of damaging your engine is up there. If you want to floor your car sooner, just put in 5W-30 as it warms up the fastest in your vehicle.

Good question, but i would never do that in my evo. I tried to do that in my RSX turbo but it had an overboost protector on its K pro ECU, so it the engine shut off before full boost. I wonder if our Evo would be the same.
The oil filter would probably be the last thing to blow off even at 200psi. Oil seals everywhere may blow off at these high pressures but unlikely.
When cold the car runs at low pressure 11-12psi of boost, the car runs extremely rich helping warm things up. Of course the oil being cold gives extremely high pressures somewhere around 120psi.
I so DO NOT recommend taking the car to redline when its cold, however normally driving the car will be fine. All of this of course assumes your car is stock and does not use a boost controller.
