Are all Evo's tuned the same for America?
Are all Evo's tuned the same for America?
Not sure if this has been covered as I did a search and found nothing concrete. Simple question:
Does anyone know if Evo's sold in California are tuned according to the 91 octane limit available there? As opposed to an Evo sold in New Jersey for instance that will be regularly running on 93 octane or higher.
Any thougths would be appreciated!

All the same. Mitsubishi has no way of knowing for sure what cars are going to end up where with people moving, traveling to other states, dealer trades and what not.

That was what I was thinking. The reason I was asking was that I have been periodically filling up my tank with 8 gallons of 91 and 4 gallons of 100 from a couple of different 76 stations in Los Angeles. The blend will surely take my octane above 93 without using any additives or octane boost which I want to avoid using. This is good to know if I ever get a re-flash which I am considering.
Thank you for your responses.

The ecu is adaptive. It learns what relative level of octane your fuel has and adjusts the timing/fueling accordingly. If you want your car to go faster with higher octane fuel you have to reset the ecu.
I think it's more like... "The Evo needs at least 93" but has a very sensitive knock sensor that may save the motor during high load, high temp conditions.
Screw you California! Trying to save our air, water and resources...bastards. Just give us 94 octane and add another 20 cents in tax to the total...I'll pay it. What's another 50 cents when we're already paying $3.70+ / gal for ****ty 91 octane?
I think the bottom line is, get your car custom tuned so you don't have to worry about what the stock evo is tuned for.
