I'm a noob getting desperate for evo info...
Greetings EVO experts,I've grown tired of tuning Hondas. I've effed with B series engines for a couple of years and thought about moving on to a K, but realized that Evo's n' STI's will always brutally rape me unless I spend $15k on mods-sad I know. Quick background FYI: I totaled my car(ITR) about 2 years ago and due to insurance and financial situation, have been driving mommy's hand-me-down '95 Civic LX 4dr automatic. Now I've noticed that I don't drive a stick nearly as well as I used to when I get the chance to fool around with my buddies' rides and we're only talking about 200hp cars here! Just searching for wisdom amongst the Evo heads:
--Do you think I'll be able to handle an Evo 9 for daily driving and avoid looking like a jack *ss?
--Does the clutch really wear out as badly as they say?
--Do your monthly insurace payments look like your paying for a Rolls Royce Phantom?
I've got more questions, but these are the 3 that come to mind at the moment. Please drop me some insight!
Driving an EVO isn't difficult. Like any car , you get used to it. As long as you don't drive like a jack ***.
Yes, the clutch wears out rather quickly in these cars. Especially if you drive like a jack ***. But after doing alot of mods to the car, your gonna want to change out the stock clutch anyways.
My insurance went up quite a bit when I bought my EVO. And I have a spotless record. It's just the nature of the beast. You wanna play, you gotta pay. If your that concerned with payments and insurance, go and buy an eagle talon or mitsubishi eclipse. And with all the money you save on payments and insurance, you can afford to build a pretty fast car.
Hope this helps.

If you still have ANY issue with your financial situation or finance dont buy one. Maintenance alone will be so expensive you can quickly deep yourself into a hole that would be really hard to get out of.
Let me give you a little background on my driving record. 1 at fault accident and my insurance is $390 a month. In October (with a clean record) my insurance will still be $312. My car payment is $403.50 a month... so yeah like Speed said, if you wanna play you gotta pay. Also you might want to take into consideration is how much these cars are to maintain. Just for good brakes pads your looking $200 not including install (which isn't too hard). I get really bad gas mileage (mostly because I'm almost always in boost lol) and premium is like $2.14 a gallon here, so i spend roughly $160 dollars in gas a month. Lets see what else, oh yeah, oil changes is about $50 dollars doing it yourself (thats using royal purple). You should also change the T-case gear oil frequently (5k for me) thats about 40 for 4 changes. Spark plugs I change every 3k $10 for good copper ones. Thats a general idea for you.
If you can drive a stick, you can drive an Evo. But remember the Evo will be a lot faster than your used to. lol.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Im a newbie too, but an EVO for a daily driver... would u drive an NSX as a daily driver?
I daily drive my S2000, but traffic is a b*#ch. I only drive about 20 miles round trip a day. if that... But like i said if your in heavy traffic its a pain in the A$$! Im not saying it cant be done, im sure alot of people drive their EVO Daily, but that depends on driving condition? Like here in Atlanta, you wouldnt want be driving stick in the middle of rush hour.
I own an s2000 and people said the transmission and differential was weak, its been two years now and i still dont have any problems(knock on wood). I depends on the owner, if you abuse your clutch with launches any car will wear and tear easy. If your only doing occasion highway roll it will be more dependable. I know people with stock EVOs and have been fine with them. Then again my aunt`s neighbor who is about 60`s drive his evo like there`s no tomorrow. Tranfer case broke and tranmission and it only has less than 9000 miles. He doesnt daily drive it either. My S2000 has been stock for 2 years now, while the RSX is fully bolted on. Needs a k-pro though... Still no problems with either one. So im guessing the EVO bolted on with a flash is just as reliable. I dont know for sure since i havent owned an EVO.
I myself has no speeding tickets/no accidents in the last 5 years, 26 years old and married. So my insurance is very cheap from state farm. But when i was a teen my insurance was high due to the tickets and totalled my dad`s accord about 7 years ago. Only way i can see you save is you set your deductible to $1000/collission instead of $100/Collission.
Im looking to trade my RSX for an EVO, cause i like the power it has, reliability is questionable, because of the warranty. And anytime you have a perfomance vehicle it tends to be subject to wear and tear faster. Like tires last only 10-14K miles. Thats changing tires every year... If you abuse your clutch and transfer case breaks, repair bills etc. MODS = $$$ = Faster = Tickets
It depends on the person... if its worth it... I think the EVO for the Money is a great car. Especially if you want to leave it stock has enough power to hang or leave otehr cars out there. Modded even better performance but you`ll be sacrificing warranty and maybe reliability.

the evo is a nice car you just need to take it easy at first and dont let the power get the best of you or more then likely you'll wreck it ... the evo was my first car as well and i did a couple of mistakes but it's all good now
--Do you think I'll be able to handle an Evo 9 for daily driving: Yes.
and avoid looking like a jack *ss?: No (wing + altezzas = "look at that J.A.")
--Does the clutch really wear out as badly as they say?: probably, the pedal has a high release point that is really hard to get used to, at least for me it has been.
--Do your monthly insurace payments look like your paying for a Rolls Royce Phantom? Yes
