remove shifter knob

Ok I have an Evo IX RS I have the aluminum shift knob. How the hell do I get it off. It doesnt appear to screw off. I think there is a plastic cap on the top that comes off or somthing, but I do not want to ruin it. I need to take it off to install my turbotimer. BTW I have the aluminum color one not the blue one.
Sorry for the small pic

he did say it doesnt seem to screw off so at least give him credit for trying jesus. just give it a real hard turn and it will unscrew sometimes there on pretty tight. When you put it back on after a few threads start pull up gently and screw so the numbers are in the right position.

Its really hard with the aluminum knobs, because they have those grooves that make it very slippery.

Actually to get mine off I had to grab it with both hand and have my girlfriend but more pressure on my hands so they wouldn't slip. It can come off.

ah man i have the same think in my 6-speed; you have to peel off the center cap and use a allen key to take off the screw and thats it; it is not a screw on type...

I have a six speed and there is no screw.I had a hard time with my bare hands they kept slipping,so i put on my leather driving gloves and the knob came off first twist.Screwed the new one on,DONE.

It is a screw on type. I had to screw on my shift knob when I got my car and it's a 06 MR.
