From Camaro Z28 to Lancer Evolution?
From Camaro Z28 to Lancer Evolution?
Hey guys
I was just wondering if it would be worth it to sell my Camaro and get an Evo. Someone in Pennsylvania is already interested in the Camaro, and I had originally planned to replace it with a 04-06 GTO. Now Im starting to look at evolutions and there are some decent deals around me. Has anybody made the Z28 Camaro to Evolution change?
Thanks

I had a 98' Z28 1LE (susp. upgrade option).
Was a nice car with lots of LS1 HP potential, but with rear wheel drive it was always a constant challenge to keep under control in the twisties. I hated when my friends stock evo, sti, and s4 would pull away in the corners.
I do miss the V8 torque and sound, though.

Although I posted already, I feel I should post a few ascetic reasons as to why I dislike the GTO's and favor the EVO.
1) The GTO looks like every other Pontiac out there. The Grand Am/Prix, Bonnavilles, ectra. They all look the same to me (I think it's from 98+?) Granted, they have minor changes here and there, but at a quick glance, you cannot really tell much of a difference.
2) The GTO's interior has more to offer, but as mentioned, it looks/feels the same to me, as the other Pontiacs that are available.
3) The GTO is only 2WD, while the Evo is AWD. The AWD aspect gives the Evo the ability to handle the winter's around here better, and so makes it so that I don't have to worry about having a winter car anymore (like I did with the Camaro). That in turn makes it alittle cheaper for me. (though not by much)
4) Not a lot of people know exactly what an Evo is, so I've been getting alot of interesting/amusing reactions to the car while out driving.
5) I can fit my kid, and 3 adults in the car without too much cramming. I can fit a 4th adult if they're rather skinny. There's also room in the trunk for a respectable amount of picnic supplies.
6) 4cyl gas mileage, "v8" power.
I could keep going, but that's the jist of it. Honestly, numbers 1, 3 and 5 are what mad the decision for me. There's more to it, but I felt that there was no reason to really compare the Evo to much of anything else. (except a STI, but cost decided me there)

I had a 04 Cammed/Stalled GTO than put down 390 to the rear wheels and ran very low twelves. The two doors got old with my kids and gas mileage blows. I traded it in for an Evo IX and have never looked back. I love the speed, nimbleness, and of course the AWD making it the perfect daily driver, track *****, and all-season vehicle. DO IT!
