My evo IX is basically stock and I need help

Hey How's it going? I'm just diving into the world of auto tuning for performance. I need a little help. Since I got my car, the only thing I have changed is the bov, to an HKS. I would like to add in intake onto my project, but after reading several different posts I am confused as to the next step. Certain people said that you should just buy several mods (without putting them on) and then put them on at once and tune your car. Is this the case? And is an intake a good next step?

You need to make use of the search button. Hell, just scroll down this section of the forum and your questions will be answered.

Here's a hint: Get rid of the HKS bov.

hmm. IX's come with awesome DV's, an HKS is super unneccessary. It actually will make it run worse, even if it's recirc'ed. Intakes are also a very unneccessary mod. Stock airbox with a drop-in is fine. However, the most popular intake seems to be the injen. Intake is not a good step.

In regards to the tune, it depends on the mods. If you're just doing exhaust or something, you can put it on and tune it later. however, if you're swapping turbo/injectors or something, a tune is very important. Especially injectors.

I would say look for Warrtalon, and check his package at buschur. very proven, and very cheap for the performance.

Dammit andy, beat me to it. But do this like the first guy said "well you should def start wit a mbc a tbe and intake and tune" minus the intake. and do remove the HKS

Intake is kind of a waste. You can go with a open cone filter such as a buschur or k&n filter but the car will need to be tuned for it. Many people are gonna sa the BOV was a waste too, as the stock IX bov is pretty damn good. Get an exhaust system, you will notice a nice gain and you really dont need a tune for it. These cars are very picky and need to be tuned to most mods like intake, fuel pump, boost controller. If you want a path to go, mine would be exhaust, fuel pump, boost controller and a tune to start. you would be making some good power with ust those few mods. Hope this helps a little.

ix's have larger fuel pumps than viii's, so no fuel pump necessary for awhile. i think AMS did the test on it. exhaust, boost controller, tune. that would be good. if you are getting an open element intake DO NOT GET THE K&N ONE! search and you will know why

I'll make it VERY easy for you:

Click on his link -> BR Stage 1 and buy.

Sell that HKS bov off and put your stock one back one. You can hear the WHOOSH when you get an open element filter.

Sell that HKS for some mods that are worth it (filter, tbe, mbc...aka tried and true)

If you are running HKS VTA you will need a tune. Else you are gonna degrade the performance of your new ride.

Wrong. You cannot tune for VTA with our ECU and MAF...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I will trust the consensus when you say intake is not a necessary step. My next thing will be exhaust the mbc and then a tune. That sounds about right from you guys responses. Also, that link I got from Andy was pretty cool. Thanks guys.

The vishnu stage 380 would be the base IX option from them, then it moves to the v400 and 500 packages. The v400 is the one I just ordered for my 06 IX SE.

First thing you should do is figure out how much money you have available. Then figure out what your horse power goal is (be realistic). Take your time in deciding what brand/type parts you want, you don't want to spend money twice because you bought the wrong part the first time.
