About the amount of oil:

I've seen it stated that the Evo takes 5.4 or so quarts. I've never used more than 5 quarts on an oil change and have been nearing the top of the fill line every time. I would suggest adding about 4.5 qt and checking it from there.

I sent my oil into Blackstone Labs for analysis (oil had been in from 1k to 4k, M1 10W30) and they told me to change to 4500 mile intervals, I switched to AMSoil so I could probably go longer but the 3000 mile oil change is ridiculous its mostly for companies like jiffy lube to make money. Anyways if its the original oil you should have changed it at 1k when break in was over. Get some new good synthetic oil in there and leave it for 4500.

oil change

I change my oil every 3000 miles and it's blacker than tar! I can't imagine what it would look like if I waited until 4500.

Sad but true, I'm getting oil change instructions, reason is if you ever go under the hood of a GSR and an MR, they're freakn different! Well maybe cuz the MR is newer and all the plastic pieces are still there compared to my half beaten GSR hehe. Close to 800 miles on the MR and I guess it's time to change the dane oil Common don't dog us, if i didn't ask I would've pulled that dane line out cuz its just annoying hehe, well maybe after 20k miles I wouldn't care much anymore....

Be sure to get Rhino ramps or a jack and stands. Makes life a hell of a lot easier. Be sure to check the How-To...it's so well written that a monkey could do it. If you plan to also change your tranny/diff fluids (there's a how-to for those too and it's really easy) you'll definitely want the jack/stands (maybe even 4 stands to get the entire car off the ground so it's level and the fluids drain out properly).

SOB Why, is it a track car or something. or do you just like to **** $$$ away like that. Wow I thought I was **** about it...

I change it every 3-4k but change the filter every 1000 to 1500 and use royal purple. Full synthetics dont break down like standard oils do and they also dont pull moisture from the air as much either so as long as you keep it clean your good. It should also depend on how you drive as well. If you drag race a lot or take it to track days or auto-x then you obviously should do it more often. live near the ocean= more often, live on a dirt road= more often ect.

5.5 quarts is way to much
it takes about 4.5 quarts

Changing every thousand is a total waste of money......espc. if its a DD. But if it makes you sleep better than i wont knock it. Synthetic aint cheap espc. the good stuff. These cars are so high maintenance. Even 2000 miles is ALMOST too soon

if you put 5.5 quarts in, you would be above both notches on the dipstik, like others i always put in 4 and 1/2
