Boost Question
Hey still new, but my problem is I have an IX EVO and my boost level only boosts to 15 lbs. Even though stock Ix's are supposed to boost to 19lbs and tapper to16lbs mine is only @ 15lbs. I did a boost leak test and it was my Forge BOV leaking as soon as I hit it with 15psi. So I installed my stock BOV and same problem and there were no other boost leaks. My main question of all of this is that the car definatly comes rich from the factory. I have an open air filter and 3" cat back installed. So my question is if I get a manual boost controller or SAFC and set my boost @ 19psi will I be fine or do I need to get my car flashes or tuned so I am not too lean? Any help is appreciated...
i just got my ix this week , and im very new to the evo world.. but from what i have read these cars are very sensitive to any mods and you can actually hurt performance with most mods without a tune.
you need to get a DV that will hold the boost. since your car is under warranty, i'd see if i could get a new one from the dealer since your stock DV should be good to around 25psi. if you increase the boost while still having a leaky DV, you'll be overworking your turbo to maintain the higher pressure, as well as pumping more heat into the intake charge. so my advice is, before anything else, get a DV that won't leak.

In reference to hondafans post. I forgot to say that my stock B.O.V does hold about 25psi. So that my car it's self is maxing out @ 15lbs. of boost from the factory.. So then if I get either a MBC or EBC and set my car to spike @ 19psi and then tapper will I be safe AF wise or no?

Yes I checked it right @ the comp. side. I have a couple of friends that know a good bit about all of this turbo stuff. I had my buddy help me do the leak test so I had someone there who knew what to check for.. Also my aftermarket valve was a Forge recirculating BOV. in ref to someone elses post earlier in the posting by justi v.

This is a Qestion to Sparkys comment. I am still new so by getting a MBC and raising boost to 17psi is that different than adjusting the wastgate preload? Or is that the same thing just different terminology?
what gear are you going wot to test your boost level? if you are only testing your boost level in 1st or 2nd gear you are going to get lower readings. you need go wot in 3rd gear to see what your boost level is

If your having a low boost situation itīs good to know what your base wastegate pressure is. Thatīs the boost pressure at which the flapper valve opens when only the wastegate actuator with the actuator rod at itīs loosest setting is controlling the flapper. From that point you can increase wastegate preload by shortening the adjustable actuator rod to a level of about 17-19 PSI, then your MBC controls from that level up to your peak boost setting.
I would recommend installing your known stock DV first. Then installing the MBC. Then veryfying base wastegate pressure. Then setting preload. And finally dialing in peak boost with your MBC.
