so last week i went to my local mitsu service department and i made a thread ab my experience there. i took some of ya'lls advice and went to another mitsu place nearby. well i was totally excited that they said my warranty would cover my clutch problem...i dropped the car off on monday morning at 9 o clock...it is now 11:30 on wednesday, here comes the ruckus!
11:00-----I recieved a voicemail from the service depart. manager, he tells me we have run into a SMALL problem.
11:05-----I call him back and he tells me has bad news and to please hold
(meanwhile I'm thinking my car got screwed up SOMEHOW!)
11:15!!!!-----he says hello? you still there? I said yes sir, he then proceeds to tell me that after they have opened up my car and looked at my clutch and taken pictures, that they cannot cover it with my warranty! puts me on hold again
11:19-----he tells me it will be $1,800 dollars for a new clutch and flywheel not including labor! he says if you can't do that, then we can put the car back together but it will be friday before we have it all done...
it took them 3 days to get to the clutch and flywheel and it will take another 2 days to put it back together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I STILL HAVE NO CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

That sucks man. Hopefully they don't manage to screw anything else up while they have your car. Why did they say they decided not to cover it under warranty?
they said that after looking at the clutch, that it had been, and i quote "HOTTED"...so therefore they cannot cover it

From the sounds of it. They under good faith said they would cover it. Went through the procedure, took photos of it. Sent it to mitsu corp to get it covered and they denied it because it looks like it was abused.
When a clutch gets abused things start to change colors due to heat. You can tell if a clutch has been abused due to the heat and they probably saw that. If you launched your car ever well then yes it was abused and they can tell.

Just buy an ACT and be done with it. I am surprised that a dealer even said that they would look at it under warranty. Clutches typically dont get covered under any warranty.

A clutch is a wearable item, this dealership did the right thing. A clutch can fail prematurely. But when they got to it and inspected it they could see it was due to abuse which causes this item to wear faster than normal.Originally Posted by Wallesasuaz

I have 20K on my stock clutch. Don't launch the **** out of your car or abuse it and you'll be fine. You can still have fun but launching it will kill the stock clutch fast guaranteed.

hotted my ***! what the **** the dealer thinks we will drive our cars like old people? ****, (they wont cover the clutch, anywhere) man take that car from there - labor usually runs $450+ and new ACT street clutch runs around 400-500 bux. Re-sufrace stock flywheel and you're done. It should cost you no more than $1000+ with new clutch+labor. IT takes from 5 to 8 hours to swap the clutch.
PLEASE people do not take your car to the Devil.
