quick ? about changing fluids in trans, front and rear diffs

just got my evo a couple weeks ago. and i just changed out the fluids today. i read that it was an acceptable method to just fill them up until fluid came out of the fill hole so long as the car was level. i just want to be sure that i read correctly, and this is a widely used method..

i have searched already and i know the specific measurements but the logic behind this method seems sound. i need the peace of mind that i didnt read this info from someone who doesnt really know what they are talking about.

thanks.

Right on!

The service manual says to check the fluid level you make sure the car is level then check that the fluid is right to the edge of the fill hole.

Wasn't it nice of the engineers to make it so simple?

cool .. so there is no way we can overfill the rear diff or t-case. might have to start doing my own fluid changes!

I changed mine yesterday as well, and I was only able to get about 1 1/2 quarts in the trany before it started leasking. I knew it took like 2.9 or 3, so I asked my father in law (mechanic) what was up. He came over and turned my wheels a few revolutions, and then I proceded to fill again. I was able to get the rest of the fluid in before it starts leaking out the fill hole again.

So, just be sure you have a rough idea what the recomended fill level is. Now this might not be the case when doing the diffs, this is just what I experienced with the trans.

I never knew that either, but then again I've always been able to get the recommended amount in.

i was able to get about 3 quarts in without having to rotate the wheels.. although i guess it would depend on luck whether or not you stopped your vehicle where something in the transmission would cause a blockage.
