RS to MR... need help.

Hi... I'm currently considering buying an 2006 EVO.

Thing is, I don't know which one to get.

RS, IX, IX Special Edition, or the MR.

I seem to be swaying towards the MR, but I hear mixed stories about the MR. "PERFECT, THE BEST!" "NO WAY DONT GET!"

Also, I've also been a little into the 2008 EVO... thing about that is whether the mods will be good for it.

Seeing as how the 08 Lancer doesn't really have any capable modifications to it, ie: cant get an exhaust system, so only the tips... etc.

Since you guys here are Evo experts, do you believe that the new 08 will be better in specs. than the 06?

I know about the DSG or Manual that the 08 has, but besides that: Will 06 EVO drivers be able to compete and be similar in power and capabilities as the 08 EVO drivers, or will a stock 06 be outbeat hard by an 08?

okay clearly you and the search button really need to bond

no one knows anything about the X so anything you read is speculations

mods will be available just not until research and development take place

search

rs = stripped track car

mr = six speed and all the goodies

Join the speculation club, we wish we knew more about the Evo X but we only know bit and pieces: high boost turbo, offered with semiauto, rear mounted turbo(behind the engine, intake and exhaust cams variable and so and so but no firm fact sheets.

Having own a regular Evo 9 and a Evo 8 MR, I would say get the RS or the regular one, they are 99% of the performance with thousands of dollars in savings that would be otherwise spent in other alternatives routes(tuning, mods, suspension)

Comparing the 06 model with the 08 model? well, in paper the 08 will be vastly improve but that is just on paper. The 08 weights more and it comes with 20" rims, dual exhausts and crap that questionably helps in performance.

Perhaps the 20" rims might be a good thing for the ltest mtv video of Snoop and 50c but 20" in a Evo? show me!!

Everyone has the same questions as you but no one certainly knows crap about the new Evo X performance. There are too many Kock teasing videos shown already but again not a single bit of real technical information or any test of any kind. No wonder why people with Evo 8 and 9s are sticking with the old timer and well bullet proof 4G63.

Your turn..

Carlos

I have a 2006 Evo MR and any let me tell you It is probably one of the best cars. My car is fully stock and let me tell you its quick. Everyone tells me its very reliable becuase of the mivec, also if you plan on modding the vehicle dont do it half as go to a good shop like amsperformance.

Yea it's hard to see a car vs paper.... I guess I'm going to save more of the $$$ and then buy either one whenever the 08 comes out and I see people's reactions in performance and mods.

thanks 2 everybody that has posted 4 the help.

if your into drag the MR isnt the best because you run out of gearing in 4th.

ill tell you what the dealer told me.
The SE is just as good of a car as the MR. basically the same except for the trans and a few visual things.

some say the X isnt geared to compete with the STi anymore. more to compete with the M3 but again just speculation.

I drive a non MR and have 0 problems or complaints besides the ****ty stock clutch but thats the same for every model.

Is it the check ball in the clutch master cylinder that makes the stock clutch suck? Or is it the clutch material that sucks?

Thanks,
Matt

It's the pressure plate that sucks. 2200lbs of clamping force as opposed to aftermarket alternatives that start around 2900lbs.

Hello. I have 06 MR. I got MR for two reasons. First, I like having an extra gear. Second, I am not planning to modify the car. If you are planning to modify the car, then like others are saying, get RS or SE, save some money, use the money you saved toward mods. If you are not planning to modify your car, then MR comes with better suspension, 6 speeds, and it's just plain nice. I have heard that if you modify the car and get more power, transmission isn't as durable as 5 speed.

The IX SE is the best bang for buck hands down. I am not a fan of the 6 speed either so the IX SE was perfect for me. I have had 2 dealers now tell me that they prefer the IX over the MR. To each there own though.

If you go with a IX - SE 5 Speed
...or you could wait for the X
