well holes in that inner tube might affect flow because of aerodynamics and maybe of pressure as well, just speculating

I personally run a buschur exhaust with no cat and a bullet muffler, it is pretty loud.

With that said my friend has the magnaflow exhaust that Jarrod described, his exhaust is significantly quieter. Having a conversation in his car is not tuff and it does not get annoying to be on the highway in his car either. The sound at idle and light cruise is noticeable but not loud. WOT is pretty loud but sounds good.

Got links to the "dissappointing numbers"?

Robevo has got great numbers with the tanabe. Im running the tanabe medallion touring also and could not be happier.

Look around, you'll find them.

I am not saying that you wont be happy with the exhaust, I know plenty of people who have them and your right they are very quiet and sound pretty good, I am not debating that. But I dont think there is a single person who believes that a quiet exhaust like the Tanabe is going to make as much power as a straight through 3" like the buschur. I am just saying that if I were gonna spend a lot of money for an exhaust, I would want to get as much HP out of it as possible.

and soooo quiet you not going to bealive it if you will hear it.
dissapointig ??? maybe for you....
for me its perfect, quiet as almost the factory but the performance...
everybody who saw my car, they all thought i have ONLY cat-back...

fast and quiet car is priceless.i had my 350 whp evo 8 GSR SSL was louder inside and outside, then my new 360 whp evo 9 RS stripped..../not even rear seats/

you want to hear it? if you are living close to me, anytime
Perhaps dissapointing was the wrong word, but I do belive that if you were to swap out your exhaust you would make more power. For example I have the same mods as you except for the UICP, and I only run 22 PSI.

I made 380HP and I trapped 116.7 in the 1/4

To me this shows that the exhaust makes a pretty big difference.

Have you ever tracked your car, how did you do?

Through my understanding, Perforated core resonators do not affect flow at all because of their straigh flow through design. Louvered core resonators will flow about 5% less but do a better job at silencing things.

Here is a picture from RRE to show what I'm talking about.

Now I can see why a Louvered resonator can affect air flow, but the perforated resonator is just straight through with holes in the wall. The exhaust passes straight through and the sound waves bouncing on the walls get muffled down/absorbed a bit.
You are right. You probably do know more about this subject than I do. I guess I just havent been around cars and dyno testing long enough to SEE results in person.

Yes sir.

It is $1075 SHIPPED for a full 3" Vband turboback. Your choice of the muffler and a highflow cat or off-road pipe.

Jrod, that's probably what i'll end up going with than, it will be a few months, may get it for my b-day as a gift to myself in september. since it's full 3" that will suport the 500-550 i'm planning on pushing won't it?

That will work.

That power level will not be an issue. We have NUMEROUS 600+ whp cars out there running the same exhaust.

Just dont expect 500+whp to be "quiet" because that is one thing it is not.

I have the buschur magnaflow exhaust with a test pipe and at cruising speed and normal driving its not bad at all, I was told my exhaust was quiet by another evo owner who has a turbo xs w/ a test pipe......but when you go wot it screams pretty good, but still not overly loud

Im happy with it......

280's????? Those are the small ones. You need the BF272's if you want some aggressive sound.

if noise is really a concern, I'd suggest getting something with a removable silencer, mine is not noticable at all with it in.
my clip (no silencer) @ 3,4,5,6,7k rpm

70mm works dp, stealthcat, JIC Ti 3" . kn drop in

i never did 1/4 mile. i'm not intrested in anyway about that. For me 1/4 mile proves nothing.
i do other races /takes longer than 10-13 seconds/. i know if i got the buschur or other ones i would make more hp. But i trully do not bealive, i would get 20 more whp with another cat-back compare to the Tanabe.
Reason i think that, i got guys with same set up same tuner+ dyno, but way less restrictive exhaust . Most differences is 5-6 whp... For me not worth it, to get a loud exhaust ticket or the cops attention. All i was looking for an exhaust wich is fit with JDM bumper and quiet as much as possible, but not too much restrictions.
Another options was the fujitsubo but it has two resonated section..And i thought thats maybe too much if i already got the resonated test pipe, having three resonated section on my exhaust system. And later i find out the Buschur makes one for the JDM bumper but it was too late.Other wise i might got that one. But i'm so happy with my Tanabe since i got it , quality for the Tanabe is out standing . You know the number hunting is not always the best thing to do. You might loose couple hp but the long run might worth it.

True..... A silencer is a great way to kill the sound. It is also a great way to kill power.
