can you guys help me out here?

i'm getting an 06 but don't know if i should get an SE or MR the MR is $2,600 more! they want $32,800 for the SE and a nother dealer wants 35,400 for the MR! do these prices seem right? and which model do you guys think i should go with? i don't know much about the 6 speed but i hear its a little weaker from 4th and up cuz its thinner gears so will that mean that the 5 speed will last longer with the exact same driving? "stock" i know this sounds dumb but any help will be very helpful to me thanks

John

Go with the SE. Love the way those seats look, and the proven 5 speed tranny.

Now that we have the option of an SE, it is by far the most valuable Evo out there. You get the HIDs without having to pay for SSL, and you get the aluminum roof + diamond black BBS rims without having to get the MR. It comes with the stronger 5spd and is only missing the Bilsteins, which you can live without for a much lower price. Be sure only to purchase from places like SouthCoast Mitsu where the SE costs 30k or so.

Sorta. The gearing is shorter in the IX 5spd than the VIII 5spd - it's not just the SE but all IXs with 5spds.

There is a way - don't trade in. You're going to lose several thousand that way, because you'll get low value on the trade-in and pay high price for the new one. Doesn't make sense to me. The only advantage is if your state gives a sales tax break on the trade-in.

25k on trade-in doesn't sound that bad actually. But you could get more privately.

You should have to pay taxes on the difference in the trade-in cost vs purchase cost. That would be 32.8k - 25k = 7.8k * NY sales tax %.

Overall, the SE would be the logical choice. As Warr stated, the SE includes options that would only be found on the MR, minus the 6sp trans and the MR pricetag.

Personally, the $2600 saved, would be $2600 in mods waiting, after break-in.
