Well i had no coolant in the oil or anything and i wasnt losing any power and i put my car on the dyno and put down good hp for my mods. But on the second pull my system go pressurized and was blowing out the overflow tank. i caught it before it got to bad and saved my head, my friend bought an evo with a blown headgasket and had to deck the head because it was so bad and warped

Ugh, well it looks like it's the headgasket. I pulled plugs and 3 out of 4 had green tint on them. I also noticed condensation building up inside the muffler tip when I cold-start to refill the radiator (on a daily basis).

Sorry to hear that

At least I don't feel like a dumbass in saying it wasn't an air pocket.

I believe just wear and tear. 90k miles on a stock motor running 24 pounds of boost, even though tuned right, can still go wrong I guess.

But now I'm wondering why this got moved to the newbie/Faq. There are at least 10 other "coolant overflowing" threads in the Evo General describing similar issues with the cooling system and/or head gasket. I guess I am a noob again.

I have an '03 as well and got a recall notice that the radiator fan controller is failing causing your car to overheat, because your fan doesnt turn on when it should and turns on when it shouldn't. Dont know if you figured out the problem yet but i would look into that. It only takes like 15 minutes to replace. Good luck and hope you find out the problem.

Yeah, I had the fan switch replaced a long time ago. Both fans work fine.

No clue. Actually, I'm driving it still at the advice of my mechanic buddy. There's no coolant in the oil, and the car is not overheating. Carpooling is a real PITA for me with how far away I live from work and my work hours change on a daily basis.

So for now, I'm trying a few more things. We suspect it may still be air trapped in the cooling system, since that's when the problem first emerged. I'm going to spend the next few days flushing the cooling system to try to purge more air. Then after that a cooling system pressure test. Then a cylinder compression test. Then depending on what those tell me, it could be headgasket time. Blah.

Since you got it hot---be sure you resurface the head...or you'll be back at it again..
