Torn between the IX and X

I just got the go ahead from my wife to get another Evo and there is a beautiful IX for sale at bell mitsubishi, NJ but after seeing the new lancer the X is growing on me. I have owned two evo's and love the look of the VII-IX. Damn, I should just get the IX and mod it a bit and be done with it, right? What would you guys do?

You've got a great wife on your hands there! Id say go for the IX for now. The 4G63 motor is tried and true. The 4B11 is a new platform and not yet proven itself yet. Id give it a year or 2 and see if they are performing reliably.

Hey Matt! Well IMO i would go with the X I havent ever owned an EVO but, I have owned an 02 OZ,a 04 RA, and now my 08 GTS. And relatively speaking they all had same chassis as there big brother. My GTS chassis is stiffer then the current IX and its just the N/A Lancer, Plus the new interior is way better and the blue-tooth and nav are sweet. This is just on the base Lancer so the new EVO is going to be an upgrade in every way from the IX. Some people are bytching about the 4g being switched to the 4b, but there gripes are like pissing in the wind there isnt anybody out there that knows the true output of this new block. Mitsu has taken a step forward once again and the doubters will be proved wrong once the new EVO hits the street. So this is just MO but I think if you do wait it will be worth your patience .

I went from an 03 evo to an 05 evo MR and then decided to step it up to a Mazda3...lol. It kills me driving that car but i did it for the wife. The dealership is 6 miles from my home. It is right there in front of me begging to be driven home. What do you guys think I should offer them...its the last IX on the lot. It is not the se model. I believe the price on the internet is like 32K. Im thinking of offering 29.5K before taxes. If they do that price I will buy it. Should I do it at that price?

Hello Show time,
The X looks like its gonna be great but I am worried about the first two years of the model. I think if I were getting the 08 N/A lancer over last years lancer it would be a no brainer. I'd get the 08 in a heart beat. I am also worried that these damn dealerships are gonna mark up the prices on the Xs as well. I dont want to pay 5K over msrp when I can possibly save money on a proven evo. Well, I think I have made my decision and Im gonna get the IX. Im gettin those butterflies in the stomach again. C'mon...u all know what its like to drive a new evo off of the lot.

My sister just bought an 08 GTS and after drving hers and thoroughly inspecting the car inside and out I will say that I will not be buying an Evo X anytime soon. First off it's hard to tell what the Evo X will be like from drving the GTS because the car is way too underpowered. The car has a little bit of get up from highway speeds but the car is absolutely lacking in low end torque. It has ZERO off the line grunt, it's kinda sad.

However the car is perfect for my 19 year old sister as her first car that she bought brand new. It has all the amentities that any young girl could want GPS, Bluetooth, and a nice sound system. I would have to say the the 650 Watt Rockford Fosgate sound system impressed me, it has ALOT of punch for a stock system. I would recommend this car to anyone who is one a budget but still wants a respectable ride, however for enthusiasts it's completely out of the question. The nice thing is that it will keep her out of trouble because it is very hard to speed in it.

Now these amentities really have nothing to do with the Evo X because they will not be an option for the X unless they decide to offer it in a SSL package. The reason I would not get the X is because of the cars size. It is MUCH larger than the current EVO. It actually looks kinda strange standing next to my car. I will admit that the car has a much nicer interior than most Evos but not all. I have an SSL and nothing can really beat that as far as niceness. However the Evo looks way better on the outside, the
08's do not even compare. I know that the car will probably grow on me more and more but it's still a larger car. What's most pronounced is the height because it is a very tall car to say the least. I'm also not to fond of the rear end becuase of the extra large trunk lid. Needless to say it's a nice car but if I would chose between the two for now I would stick with the 9 SE, you cannoy beat the looks and performance! The EVO X won't be a hot commoditity for atleast the next 2 years when the aftermarket lines become established.

Spoken like a true lancer owner.

Or maybe you should wait? The used evo 9 market should plummet when the X comes out.

I'm waiting to get my hands on a sub 15k 8RS for track duty!

Get the IX. A true car enthusiast doesn't care about resale value, I know if I did I would of gotten a Porsche or BMW. If you plan on being a guinea pig for the new engine go right ahead. Why not go with a car that already has so much aftermarket parts available.

I am waiting for X personally. Are you going to your mod next EVO much? if so, get the IX, if not wait for the X. And if you care about the bell and whistle the X has to offer, you should also put that in consideration.

I think the S-AYC will attract current Evo owners the most to the X. That's what backed me out of buying a IX. But, if I had no Evo, I would be scrambling to get one of the last IX's.
