It cannot detect the cop if hes behind you, while the V1 can. I sold that thing for $150 the SAME day. Now I only use the V1 in all of my cars. There is nothing better, and it is worth every penny of that $400.
that is a lie...i have a passport 8500 x50 and i had a cop tail me with his radar for 1 mile...got him like nothing...the passport has a front/rear radar sensor..and the escort 9500i is junk..just go on the radar busters forums..and they will tell ya

i have directly compared the V1 and the RX 65. for the money, the RX65 is way better. i had borrowed a V1 for about 3 months from my friend (latest version) and he borrowed my RX65. although the V1 is an excellent detector, its not worth the price difference. you can get a new RX65 $225 shipped from ebay.
for front detection, the RX65 caught the singal a split second before the V1. for the rear, the V1 clearly had a longer range.
and who needs the arrows. i found it completly useless. plus the V1 sucked because you could not tell the difference between the K and Ka band at night. the lettering did not light up.
also, the RX65 was easier to program.

The Passport X50 and 9500i does not have a rear radar sensor. It only as a front antenna and relies on reflections to rear detection. The Passport 8500, X50 and 9500i do have a small laser eye for rear laser detection. Having my own police lidar guns I have tested the Passports 8500's, X50, 9500i and the V1's and the passports dont detect a laser shot until about 1,000 feet away when being shot from rear. The V1 having its own rear laser antenna can pick up laser front or rear pretty much right away.

You can tell with the different distinct sounds of the K and KA band. KA band sounds more urgent if i had to describe it.

Agreed. Or you could do what I did with my concealed display (which is mounted in the dash where my hazard button used to be). Here's what the stock startup routine should look like: Stock V1 and here is what mine looks like: Modded V1.

I would pick the orginal passport 8500 over the X50 or 9500i any day of the week. The 8500 is the best RD that Escort made.

201 MotorSport...

I like your conceal display for your V1 btw. I have the conceal display low enough for people not see and they have no idea. I had a LEO behind me last weekend hit me with K band at the PSL change from 40 to 25mph and right when it change to the 25mph I had already slowed down and he hit me....and the arrow pointed right to him...behind me. Any other detector would have not showed that and I would be playing the guessing game.....where is he at? The V1 told me what others cant.

I saw a picture of your setup in the Dash pic thread, and just had a few questions. Did you mount the entire v1 in the hazard spot, or did you mount the v1 elsewhere and put the extra display in the hazard slot. If you did it with the display, is the actual unit mounted by the rearview mirror?

Second, was the install hard, what all did it entail?

Third, did you remount the hazard button somewhere else? If so, where?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just really liked how clean that setup looked!!!

So true! People say the arrows are worthless and that if the detector goes off, they slow down... they don't know what they're talking about! With the concealed display, if the LEO notices my V1 on my windshield, he'll be surprised because it wasn't lit up. He always believes me when I tell him it isn't hooked up right and doesn't turn on PS> When I am pulled over, it isn't for speeding either

Questions are fine!

The V1 itself is mounted in line with my rear view mirror and the V1 Concealed Display is located where the hazard button is. This location gives the V1 a great line of sight for both front and rear detection!

The install was extremely easy. The toughest part was getting the nerve to take a dremel to the dashboard in order to fit the Concealed Display in there. Once I got that done... easy as PIE!

As stupid as it is, I have yet to re-mount the hazard button. It's on my to-do list, but it's been passed up for over a year so far I have every intention of relocating it though!

Thanks for the compliments

The GPS feature on the 9500 seems cool, although I don't really know how useful it is, at least to me. I already know all the falses in the area and what they sound like and how long they go off for. When you drive by them every day, several times a day you recongize the pattern and when its different (at least I do). I guess it would be nice to eliminate the falses for that area, but I am so use to it that I am able to just tune it out and not even pay attention, a lot like when my GF talks.

With that said, V1 FTW. I am not sure how you can say arrows are worthless. When I drive my GF's car I feel lost when the thing beeps, I find myself looking all around to figure out where the cop is or where to anticipate the cop is coming from.

But like a lot of people have said, weigh the opinions offered here and buy what fits to your budget and what you want.
