Buschur TBE Ported?

Is there any benefits to have it ceramic coated? I Never heard of anyone doing this? what is the benefit to it?

I think that Works ceramic coats their downpipes and I guess that it would tend to contain the exhaust heat thus minimizing heat transfer to the transfer case and the oilpan. I don´t think that there would be any benefit to coating the catback part of the exhaust though.

Ceramic coatings in general are thought to help by retaining heat, this is helpful for your exhaust manifold in particular as it helps to provide the turbo with more heat and help it to spin faster. However, there is very little in the way of actual data on how much the coating helps. Finally, coating your down pipe will have a very small effect, it will not help spool your turbo in any way. The only benefit could be that it reduces the amount of heat transferred into your oil pan and oil. Personally, I think there are better things you could spend your money on.

I just had my Buschur TBE coated at HPC. My thoughts were mostly all listed above. The exhaust after the downpipe was coated, in hopes, to keep the exhaust temps as equal as possible while exiting. It was my thought that the farther away from the turbo the exhaust gases got, the cooler they'd become, cuasing a slight clog, and maybe undue back preasure. I did it for my own satisfaction.

What does your thread title mean? It says "Buschur TBE Ported?"

No one coats an entire TBE - there is no benefit. The only benefit to coating the DP is to reduce heat transfer to other components of the car that are near the DP. There is no performance benefit.

I agree, that is why I only had my DP coated.

You were right in reasoning that as exhaust gas travels farther away from the turbine housing that these gases tend to cool. However, as they cool they also contract and thus will occupy less space within the exhaust pipe the farther downstream they travel. Cooler gas=less volume=less backpressure.

I guess that my explanation is pretty unscientific and most probably wrong. Ah, well!

Yeah, I thought about that too. Then, I started thinking about gasses tumbling as they cooled, and around corners, blah, blah, blah, and the effect it had on gas velocities. It's really just an experiment. Sometimes, I like to reinvent the wheel. Its just me, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but at least I know I tried something a little out of the box, and I believe that creates success, big picture wise.
