My last 2 longish trips, 200mls each way, I got 24.5mpg...traveling at 75-80...everyone rt--try and stay out of boost...the evo's passing speed 70-90 is the best in its league...so part throttle gets you there faster then anything else you have driven.. I am not gentle on the car---I just dont feel the need to punch it to the floor to pass dorks and simply pull away from a-hole tailgaters..

Don't knock the car into neutral when coming up to lights, just get off the throttle and use engine breaking to help you slow down (along with normal breaking). The ECU cuts the fuel on overrun when you are in gear as the cars movement keeps the engine turning over. If you knock it into nuetral and cost it has to add fuel to keep the engine idling. You can do the same down hills.

Not sure I explained that very well...

The instant MPG feature on my Scan Gauge gets up to 80-90MPG when I just let it coast down a hill, goes down to 3MPG on the way back up though

There are not a lot of hills here in Florida.

Please go slower than 85-90. The drag cd on the Evo is horrible. It's pretty much a box against air resistance. Lower your mph and increase your mpg.

Don't drive with the windows down. Use the A/C.

myth busters showed that the theory of rolling windows down versus A/C saves gas is a bust. SO, windows up with A/C on is fine and might be more comfortable. I dorve from KY to TX and got like 23 mpg driving about 80 mph. don't boost alot and lightly throttle when passing. no need to floor it as previously stated.

I always wondered if maybe using ecu flash could he lean his fuel map out at highway crusing speeds since thats the majority of driving he would be doing and then just flash back his old rom when he gets there. Has anyone tried this?

if you can afford an evo then who cares??? if you really did get 3 mpg better and save $20 and that really makes an impact on your life then sell the evo and get your priorities in life right.

Doesn't make a difference. On the highway your in closed loop fuel mode. The car automatically tries to get as lean as possible. Reflashes only alter the timing/fuel in open loop.
