? For High Horsepower Evo's

for you guys with 350 whp and up-

what is it like driving, example stop and go traffic, highway driving etc.

did you EVO become more easy to drive or is it now harder than stock, what do you regret about all the power you now have.

please if you can be as detailed as possible, it would be great for all us guys here or gals that are thinking of adding some power.

the clutch you choose has a lot to do with drivability.

Exedy Tripple HD......almost like driving stock.....

Aside from being a bit louder, it's exactly the same in stop and go traffic. The throttle is more responsive and it is easier to get up to speed but regardless the Evo still lacks low end power. The only thing you need to worry about is the constant taunting from the car to open it up

Tru that! Is hard not to keep the car on boost while just cruising.

so its somewhat slower when just cruising?

but what about when you do hit boost, can it be dangerous?

at ~ 350 WHP a lot of people are stilll on stock turbo. therefore, theoretically, boost will be pretty similar to stock, just quicker thanks to air getting out more easily past the turbo. stop and go is never fun but if the exedy triple really does drive like stock, I just found where to aim my pennies when I get a pile of them.

with the bigger turbos,the boost comes on later in the RPM band so its easier to stay out of boost(for those who like to save gas)...i also noticed my cams increased the vac. alot at idle

it depends how much power,350is not much of an increse thats factory turbo numbers.with the factory ecu the car still will be smooth.if u increase the power to levels where you nead a stsndalone ecu some are smoother than others and is up to the tuner.

Well thats a good point, I did go to one tuner here and remember him asking me " what do you want to do with the car?"

I am really new to this, so I told him I just want a fast car, there are a lot of things to ask and point out to a tuner I guess if you want reliability or smoothness, it all depends what the car will be used for.

for me all I want is just a pretty fast street car that still has pulling power at high speeds and smooth stop and go traffic.

I hope others here can still give some feedback.

okay then lets start with 375 whp and up then.

In my opinion I would not reccomend to go from stock to 350 whp. I don't know how you drive but for most poeple STARTING out with forced inducted cars- that is too much car right away.
for example- I let my brother drive my car, he hits the gas and the car was out of control for him. I told him to pull the fug over. he gladly did. It scared him.

As for highway driving- In my opinion Its not enough for ME. I want to feel the power that I feel in 1st and 2nd when im in 4th and 5th, so im trying alky.

As for city driving- in my opinion the only difference is at a stop your car sounds like a race car because of the cams. I have the bullet and test pipe. Its very thoaty. Its nice.

APEX1 is right and I dont think enough people look at it that way they just automatically feel like they can drive a car no matter the horsepower level. I went from a 95 Eclipse GS to an Evo and well its a whole new playing field. When I hit it in my Eclipse well I wasent really going anywhere (lol) and it took a while to get anything going. However, in an Evo when you hit it well your surely going without a doubt. So I had to learn myself up in the way of forced induction, if I can say that. Anyway my Evo has pretty much all the bolt ons for the Evo except a 10.5 hotside and o2 housing and driving is pretty much the same as factory. But im running a Exedy Twin Plate clutch and it makes driving a bit harder in traffic. Overall it pretty much the same while your on stock turbo and ECU. Its once you step in the world of the GT turbos in when it all changes.

driveability

I'm still on stock turbo with all the goodies and tuning that goes along with it. The sacrifice I've had to make is to see the SES light stay on all the time. I have to bear the smell of fuel from using a rally cat, and I have to get used to the loping sound of the cosworth cams. These are on an evo IX. No regrets though, if I had to do it all over again I would, because performance to me is more important than little inconveniences.
