Looking to get a Evo9

Hey guys this is my 1st post so don't flame me too bad I just need some input. I currently own a 04 SRT4 with the stage 3 package all the bolt ons and cams, current whp is just over 400 on 110. I'm looking for a better platform than FWD and have ruled out the STI I like to drag race every now and then and would like to get into autox aswell! My car now runs mid to low 11's with traps in the 125-127 range, I would like the same peformance out of the Evo but don't want to go over the board like I did with my SRT. I know the potential of the EVO stock turbo is much higher than the SRT it really amazes me!! I am looking at the Buschur racing power package and a FP green turbo, would that give me the perfomance that I would be looking for. I have seen many post with guys in the high 300-400 whp range with this turbo. Basically I want 380-420 awhp and don't want to give up daily drivability like I have in my SRT! Thanks for the help

If your looking for a good 380-400whp than the Green Turbo is where it is at. If you get a IX and have the correct supporting mods then your future IX will easily hit 380-400whp on pump gas. With race fuel you should be at 410-440whp or more. If you are a very good driver, the you should be able to hit low to mid 11s@120-124mph. So as you can see the green turbo is a very impressive turbo for such a relatively cheap price. Here are some turbo choices-

EVO IX with the following mods- TBE w/ test pipe, MBC, Intake, Fuel Pump, FMIC and Piping, Injectors, O2 Housing, Cams, and a good Tune should put you at 330-350whp (maybe more) on most dyno jets @ 22-23PSI and pump gas.

Stock Turbo with meth or race fuel tune @ 26-28PSI would put you at 380-400whp and an above average driver is capable of low to mid 11s@118-121mph and awesome spool, for the stock turbo is always gonna spool the fastest.

Green Turbo with the above mentioned mods and a good tune should put you at 380-400whp on 93-94 octane pump gas @ 23-24PSI. With meth or race fuel tune, power should be at 410-440whp (maybe more) @ 26-30PSI. 1/4 mile times should be low to mid 11s@120-124mph.

Another option is the popular 50Trim (other choices are GT30R, FP3065, and etc.), which spools very quick, not as quick as the stock turbo, but quicker than a GT35R and larger. With that turbo and the above mentioned mods, you should be at 410-430whp on 93 octane pump gas @ 22-24PSI. Meth and/or race fuel tune should net you 470-500whp @ 27-30PSI. On pump gas a very good driver is capable of low to mid 11s@120-124mph. With meth and/or race fuel a very good driver is capable of high 10s to low 11s@125-128mph.

As far as price goes, if you go with quality parts from vendors such as Buschur, AMS, and etc. your looking at around $2,500 to $3,500 for the bolt ons. Although you could go cheaper on some parts if you are really on a budget (EBAY Baby!!!) and can do all those mods for $2,000 to $2,500 w/ tune. The turbos I believe will run you free for the stock turbo of course, around $1,500 to $2,000 for the green turbo and for a quality 50Trim kit, it's gonna cost around $3,000 or more, depending which vendor you buy from. Oh yeah gonna probably have throw in a clutch which will run you about $600 for ACT and up to $2,000 for some of the twin disc models.

These are just some of the routes taken, there are multiple other choices, and the stock turbo itself is effecient well past 400whp if you want to take it that far, but many EVO owners drive their cars daily and take these safer and still very effective routes in producing power.

you can easily attain those numbers with an evo 9. with an evo 8 youll need a little bit more work.

if you go 9- Cold Air intake, upgraded inner, tbe, flash ecu, hard piping, cams, boost controller, tt, and a good tune and you should easily be able to get those #'s
if you go 8- youll need those and alot more work like injectors / fuel pump and some more things youll need to upgrade the turbo.

and stage 3 srt4s are a joke. why waste the 5 g when u can do 3g tops and have something in the 450 + range?

WOW thanks for all the info!! So it seems as if I'm on the right track I now just have to find a clean WW 9 and I'll be ready to roll! I am still very impressed with how well they respond to mods!! I think what did me in was the other day a friend of mine with a stage 2 car had put some new DR's up front and I was on my kumho mx's which hook up better than every tire I have had on the car! This car puts down about 250ish while I was at 360-370 pump and we raced 10-15 times from a dig and every time he would just kill me, by the time I caught traction he would be 6-7 cars out!! We then switched cars to make sure it was not driver error and it was the same thing! I could not belive it to me the car flet really slow compaired to mine yet I could see my car 5-7 cars back!! Traction FTW! I guess your car is only as fast as it can hook up! I also would not mind going to the track on street tires cutting better 60ft times than I do on my slicks then just driving home without swaping tires, that would just be to easy! Thanks again for all the info

LOL thats the same debate that goes on every day on the SRT forums big turbo vs S3! There are many angles to this yes big turbo will make more power but at the track S3 is much faster. There are more S3 powered cars deep into the 11's than big turbo cars! You avarage bolt on S3 car will run 11.6-11.9 @116-120 where most big turbo guys run high 11's to mid 12's traping 122-127. For the S3 it's all about the power under the curve they hit full spool by 2800 and hold a ton of TQ to red line and now with the big wheel upgrades like I have 450whp is there on race gas with the same spool up with a ported exhaust mani! The problem with the big turboed SRT's is the lack of RPM, most big turbos don't hit full spool until upper 3k and some higher then you hit red line @ 6250! There is a new video on street fire of a big turbo SRT vs a S3 car, big turbo was at 417whp and S3 car 370 and the S3 car walked all over on every roll! the Only roll that was even close way a 70 and the S3 car still won! The price of S3 is under 4k for the full kit, my car had S2 on it when I bought it so it was only 2,300!
