botched cambelt replacement plz advise

Hi, Evo3 woes..........

just had cambelt, balance timing belt & all associated tensioners etc replaced. also ancillary belts.

picked it up, and drove carefully for 50km, then put my foot down a little. seemed wrong, but thought it may be my imagination. seemed like less power.

anyway, about 6 weeks ago i did a rough 0-60 time, and it was about 5.8secs....definitely below 6 secs.
i just done 4 or 5 test runs, and now 0-60 is over 9 secs. i can't believe it.

the car ticks over nicely, sounds nice and smooth, and throttle response (in neutral) is fine. at about 5000rpm, it sounds a bit funny, but can't really describe it.....high freq vibrations.

so 2 main probs.....gutless & vibrations.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED?

the mech has shown me the timing marks on the cam sprockets & thwey are all correct, also on the front balance bect sprockets.

I am totally gutted...please advise

thanks

i think that there should be 17 ribs between timing marks, might want to check that... Have you done a boost leak test?

thanks, i will check the 17 ribs.

haven't done a boost leak test, but interesting.....i hadn't really connected the 2 but the power loss could be described as 'boost-less'.....from low revs, it does still accelerate like normal, but when you expect the skin on your face to start stretching backwards....nothing

Double check that rib count. He drives an Evo 3, not an 03 Evo

Either that or he needs to fix his car in the "drives" thing.

Sounds like your timing is a bit off though. I'd get a hold of a maintenance manual for your car and double check everything.

SORTED....

had mech strip for the 3rd time. he'd never checked the RHS balance shaft sprocket....he reckons 'it was only 10deg out or so' hmmmm...i reckon it wuz a bit more than that, but at least it's fixed.

what a serious problem it was though.......my 0-60mph used to be a shade under 6 secs, but it went to 9secs+, and the vibration at over 4500rpm was crazy.

thanks peeps.

btw, yes a 1995 evo3, not a '03 evo......they're rubbish :-)
