Killer scooby to EVO Newbie!!!!

Names Chris, Just wanted to introduce myself. Brief history about me 19 y/o from P-Town, OR. Started out with a 93 SR 240sx. moved on to bigger and better project a 360AWHP sti block swapped bugeye WRX. Problems with that forced me sell and picked up an 03 PPW 350z Track with plans to build that. I was looking at the cost to build my dream Z when i thought to myself why don't i save that money and get a project car. Hence the evo popped up. A buddy of mind had one and couldn't shake the balance and poise of the car just in stock form much less modified... so here my journey begins. I would like to get a wrecked (I know) evo and completely strip it and rebuild it from the ground up. I'm super stoked to soon be apart of the Evo community and look forward to the expectedly long build. thanks for listening and if anyone has any pointers or suggestions please feel free. With that said (flame suit on) since the car will already be stripped bare i was thinking of doing a JDM front clip. I drove my buddy's r32 and deffinitely feel more comfy driving on the right and since it's a track car and will have a DD Z i don't have to worry about all the smart *** people who would say g/l with drive throughs but anywho any suggestions welcome and if anyone has done a RHD swap please chime in thanks again.. Pic's soon of me and my bro's Z

Good luck!

I am pretty much doing the same, but not for track, just for personal pleasure. But I got a clear title evo, not wrecked.

Yes I do.....

Organize your bolts and parts as you tear off

If you are doing gasket maker practice the mounting/installing before actually putting the maker on it.

Have the radio on it calms the nerves.

If you have a lot of bugs in your area get bugless light bulbs, theres nothing like concetrating on putting an oil pan up and having gasket maker on and having flies landing on you bugging the **** out of you HAAAAAAAAA They drive me nuts!!! ok i feel better now

Scope out your known hard to bust bolts and soak them with bolt buster over night(mainly exhaust)

My suggestion is where applicable, as you tear down place the bolts back in their homes until reinstall. I have lost a lot of bolts, if not had left overs at the end LOL

Use a service manual lol

Use go jo

When I have more I will post

Nismo350,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for choosing the Evo as a powerplant for your project.

Anyway, I don't want to sound morbid or sarcastic but could you elaborate more on what went wrong on your 360whp WRX ? I am very curious to heard what was the root of your issues. I put my money that your transmission was converted into mush potatoes.. am I wrong?

Carlos

Actually the tranny held up fine... i bought the car from an independant dealer from the minute ig ot it i knew something was wrong. Did a cylinder leak test and found out the rings were blown on 3 and 4. To make matters worse the guy that sold it to me was a previous cop and blamed me for making the motor pop. well flash forward 2 months swapped out an sti block and from then on just wasn't able to get a good tune on it... i had a utec 780cc injectors 255 pump fmic and tbe and a TEC turbo (20g) but just couldn't find the source of the jumpiness and very rough throttle response. I ended up selling it cuz i figured i had to spend 30k more before i would be satisfied with it... not to mention 3k for RA gears

Welcome to the forum I also converted from a wrx with sti swap, unfortionetely for me I went through two transmissions both at just under 400whp and two shortblocks before I went with a forged sti block and jdm worked head with a kaaz gearset. By the way the ra gearset you mentioned is absolutely garbage I had two friends that swapped to those, one blew under 3k miles the other around ten. But i will say you will be extremely happy I spent around 30k in parts on my wrx and am as happy with my 03 evo with 1500 in parts and a tune good luck

jeez... yea with the amount of money we both put into our wrx's we could have had 2 evo's just a shame we switched over too late... would've saved alot of heart ache not to mentions alot of blows to my wallet... the 4g63 seems like a very strong motor to begin with along with the tranny. and can hold loads more power with stock internals than the scooby. I'm still looking for RHD clip... if anybody knows anywhere i can get it lemme know thanks

think of it as a very VERY long overhaul project I know car's and i do a good amount of work on cars but i really want to just tear a car completely down and rebuild it. When i have somthign to work towards it makes my days at work go by so much faster...I plan to get a wrecked 8, tear it down to the bare and completely rebuild it from the ground up... including evo9 front mr head and tails and of course the RHD conversion. nothing too fancy just a very clean RHD evo i can use at the track
