Is an evo what im looking for?

im sure this question gets beaten to death, i tried the search button but while i did get a lot of info, it didn't quite tell me what i was wanting to know.

ive got about 30k sitting right now that i have sat aside for a new vehicle (new for me but not necessarily new)

the new evo X caught my eye, because i was actually thinking about getting another DSM since i had to unfortunantly sell my GSX a while back; i kind of miss the AWD turbo feel... and not so much the maintenance that had to go into that car. ( lot of wrench work on a weekly basis because i kept breaking parts)

a buddy of mine also had me tossing around the idea of getting a 240 and dropping in a RB26 engine with a RB25 tranny.
while that would be fun, getting parts when it does break is going to be a hassle.

so im just looking for some opions on what you would do if you had around 30k that you could invest into a vehicle.

RWD or AWD
money = speed basically, so starting power really doesn't matter to awful much.
suspension can also be upgraded, but some cars just seem to handle better naturally because of the way their weight sits.. like the Exige or Elise.

how easy it is to get parts to repair it is also an issue, Supras for instance are a pain to get stuff for, and its all always an arm and a leg.

i like the evo X, but no info has really been dropped officially yet by mitsu, and i wasn't really wanting to wait until march or so of next year for the non-RS versions to be possibly released.

IMO don't get a car with a swapped engine...i'm not sure how it is in GA but over here if you get caught with a car with an illegal engine in it you are thoroughly ****ed.

if AWD + turbo is what you want, Evo is the best platform if you have the money (which you do) - plus it's a newer car than a DSM or 240...older chassis are bound to have more minor issues here and there (i know since i used have a mkII mr2t)

good luck.

buy a 9 you can do it with that money. And if you keep your warranty if you get one. Just get a tune, and you will be happy that car is bad.

yeah they're pretty easy out here as far as modded cars go, the "scene" isn't to big.
work moved me down here from SoCal, and people out here still think that you can put on a CAI and exhaust and have a "monster" HP machine :P.

im basically wanting to be able to carve corners at excessive speeds but not sacrifice performance to do so; while doing it with the best platform.

the IX MR SE would be one of my first choices, however with the X so close i feel that it could be a better platform if i went with an evo (it may not be, but mitsu is being lame with their data)

the IX is whats hot right now. I would stick with 4g63 before i start to wonder off in the 4b11 world. let someone else test out that new motor and see the pros and cons. be patient or go with the IX

speed safely

I agree I would stick with the IX right now, or at least wait a little while for the X to be out so someone else can test out that new motor for you, lol.

I'd wait a year or so to see what the X is really like. My opinion is to buy the IX, it is a wonderful car and will put a smile on your face.

I got my IX because I wanted to get an Evo before X comes out. 4g63 has been developed for years, and it is damn near perfection. However, X would be compeletely new, and would take next to ten years for the engine to be in the developmental stage.

Either way, they will keep on coming with new cars, so we gotta decide when to buy it. IX is the last of 4g63, and I decided to get it. It is a great machine.

Why the MR SE? Just get the SE, the only difference is you'll get the better 5-speed tranny and not get the bilsteins or vortex generator. You sould like you'll be upgrading the suspension so the bilsteins probably don't matter. Do some searching on the 5/6 speed tranny differences for sure.

If you go with the X, be ready to wait for aftermarket parts...

I have a GG IX MR and I'm also wondering why ur going with the MR. If you do a lot of high way driving and ur car is a DD then probably go with MR. But if u do decide to mod ur suspension etc and u have this car as ur track/weekend warrior then I would either go with an SE or RS or IX and mod from there, all that money saved from not getting an MR can all go into modding.

if you get X, you have to wait aleast year to manufacture to test their parts out etc. Also price will be sky high for brand new parts coming out for X. I wonder how much tbe for X will be

lot of good info, thanks guys.
looking depeer into the IX now.. i do about the same as far as highway straightaway driving and "S" carving daily.

someone mentioned earlier today that lexus is putting out a V-8 450hp monster.. IS-F or something like that. don't quite remember the badging; and it was going to be retailing for around 40k.

having a sizable down payment like 28k wouldn't make payments to terribly bad, so i was tossing that aroud in my head as well.

The IS-F (probably gonna be called IS500 or something along that line) is going to be no where near the 40k mark. Its probably going to start around 45k and near 55k with full options. The new IS is quite a boring car to drive. I was in my friend's IS with a 3rd friend who has no clue about cars, the driver asks him what he thinks of his new ride, and he goes 'it kinda feels like corolla i rented awhile ago'
You're much better off getting a 08 base corvette for the same money

if you want traction with all seasons get an awd. I don't see you being able to full throttle a 240 with an rb swap in lower gears and get traction (unless you get some good tires). I've always enjoyed the ease of an DD that is awd.
