Evo?

I still cant decide which to get evo or sti. This the probably the wrong place to ask because most people will be bias but i will ask any way. I just want to know if the evo is reliable. I am not looking to find which is faster because they are both freaking fast and coming from a 96' Camry almost anything is fast. I dont make that much and the last thing i need is my car braking down.

I own an 2003 Evo VIII and I think it is pretty reliable. Only thing that problem I've had is a bulb in the instrument cluster blowing out and that's it. STIs should be reliable also..as long as you don't abuse it..just like the Evo

ya most people are going to say evo considering this is a mitsu enthusiast site.

evo (03):
base price- $28,987
engine- 2.0L,dohc, turbocharged, 4 cyl
Hp- 271@65000
Tq- 273@3500
Trans-5speed manual
0-60- 4.6 sec
epa mpg- 18city/26highway

sti (04):
Base price- $31,545
engine- 2.5L F-4, dohc, turbocharged, 4cyl
Hp-300@6000
Tq-300@4000
trans- 6 speed manual
0-60- 4.9sec
epa mpg- 18city/24highway
problem areas- steering wheel off-centered, squeeky brakes

i also heard that evos backends kickout more so there fun and are good at taking turns. and sti's are more stiff and are better for steightaways.

they both look really cool.

money wise, too expensive for me. and insurance is redicoule. i heard evos are like in the top 5 most expensive insurance cost

hope this helps a bit

How do you go from a Camry to a turbocharged AWD car? Some like a WRX would be a more logical step.

If you cant mod it, I'm pretty sure you wont be able to afford the car...... First mods are under 1500... What if your clutch goes out? what if you need new brakes? Tires..etc..etc

Just to give you an idea of how much the insurance is... and i'm sure your younger..
I'm 19 and pay 316 a month for insurance.. Not the best record but.. I would really consider you sit down and see how much you make a month and figure out how much your bills including eating/gas/insurance/payment/ AND THINGS THAT MIGHT BREAK/WEAR tires/clutch/brakes/ect

test drive (if they'll let you)

"I am not looking to find which is faster because they are both freaking fast"

I say sti, watch all the sti vs. evo vids on streetfire
for a non modded , sti 'is supposed to more comfortable, definetely better sounding

Evo or STI? I love this question because the answer is so simple. Get a STI. And then come get smoked!

Go test drive both of them and see which one you like better.

I was going through the same thing for at least a year. I ve been in sti's and evo's Its really what you want the sti feels like it has more torque and feels a little more planted to the road when conering hard but after being in one and then taking an evo around a turn the evo feels a lot faster through the turn and it gets more squirrly but stays contollable. The evo just rips through turns the sti feels sluggish after driving an evo for any length of time. but man sti's sound great though

STi's are usually prettier and have nicer interiors but they seem a bit too tame for my taste.

Nicer looking interior.. not nicer. Our STI rattles, is seriously cramped in the back, and the front sport seats are not comfortable. Evo interior is not blue, but at least it's got comfy seats and the back is roomy. STI ac rocks, Evo ac sucks.

I'm just chiming in to say that some people are willing to give up a lot to own a car like the EVO or the STI. I will probably end up doing the same thing sometime down the road. Good luck with whatever you do.

I used to be a Subaru guy, having owned a WRX and an STi and two '91 Turbo Legacys. I love my Evo. Moreso than even my STi if you could believe it.

Comparing the two is a lot like people have said on here. The Evo feels like a race car out of the box. The STi is more like a stripped down luxury car with performance. Yes, the interior is much nicer in the STi in general, but the seats suck compared to the Evo. The Evo also has more interior room (but a smaller trunk). The STi has more horsepower and performance on paper, but the Evo is more fun to drive because the power band is more broad. You loose a little bit of bottom end and gain a little bit more turbo lag going to the Evo but the high-revving feel of the engine makes up for it. Not to mention that the Evo's engine is capable of much more horsepower easier and with less risk than the STi. I know there are tons of guys running 400-500whp on the STi with mostly stock internals but my question is always "Yeah? But for how long?" Whereas 400awhp on the Evo is so easy to make with barely changing anything you shouldn't have any worries.

If you are looking for something fast and comfortable, get the STi. If you want something that feels like a race car out of the box, get the Evo.
