used Evo not so great. -_-

Bought a used 05 Evo 8 and having the worst days.
I've always heard the horror stories about beaten to death evos but i always thought problems that people talk about happend only for other people. Ever since the purchase i had to replace the clutch, and transfer case. and i still have noises that bug me.I have warrenty but i modded so i guess its out the window.... I waited to for the problems to show up for about 5k miles so i can warrenty any problems if they ever show up but problems seem to come after i started modding.

used evos are a bad deal.. too many people abuse them, and then sell them cuz they are too poor to fix them.

How modded are you exactly? No way you can remove the aftermarket items and get some thing covered?

i hear some kind of rattleing .. it sounds like a metal grinding kind of .. hard to explain.. but i only hear it when i'm going real slow or stopping. it could be rattleing when i'm on the gas but i can't hear anything cuz of exhaust. It does sound like its coming from the wheel area..

I bought my car used 10k miles and I'm sure it was beat on. It's been fine 18k later 24-25psi daily no problems at all. Do people really think other people driver there car that much harder than they do? I guess there are bad examples out there, but stuff breaks even for the people who do take care of their EVO. TC's, Trans, clutches they all break.....the engines are strong though and will usually handle bolt ons and increased boost easily. They pop when tunes aren't involved or the tune is too aggressive.

Good luck I hope the drama stops.

Could be you're on the wear indicator on the brake pads.

I had somewhat of a bad experience when I bought my '04 Evo used with 11k miles last year. The car seemed to drive just fine and it appeared to be completely stock. No unusual noises, smooth acceleration, perfect exterior condition. So I decided to buy a boost gauge and that's when I discovered the other owner previously had a boost gauge installed. The gauge wasn't there, but the T-fitting was still in-line on the fuel pressure regulator solenoid hose. Instead of removing the fitting and replacing the vacuum hose, the previous owner wrapped the open end of the fitting with electrical tape Once I got the boost gauge installed, I was only boosting 12psi. So, I check out the boost solenoid lines...THEY AREN'T THERE . Yet again, the guy put electrical tape over the wastgate and turbo outlet nipples, as well as the nipple on the underneath side of the intake snorkle. I went to the delearship, bought a new set of boost solenoid lines, and the car was back to stock boost. Other than that, the car hasn't had any mechanical failures (knock on wood).

It just goes to show you that a car with only 11k miles that looks bone stock may not be all that it appears.

daechul2da: If you haven't already, take some time and check out those brakes. If you hear a metal grinding noise at slow speeds or while stopping, it may be time for some new pads/rotors.

No been there myself and its just annoying as all hell with the constant squeaking... yuck..

Rattling at super low speeds almost makes me think it could be the throw out bearing. Mine does a kind of funky rattle, super low noise, when the clutch is out and I'm going slow enough to where i can hear it. The clutch is still OEM so I'm thinking this is just a normal deal with the car.

The only other rattle I ever got was the down pipe rattling against the tie bars on the bottom of the car. Taking the tie bars off or spacers would be the best bet.

Anyways good luck

+1, had the same problem with my TOB. Also had some vibrations coming from my warped rotors in the rear until I got them replaced.
